Justin Timberlake is more than two years removed from his most recent album Everything I Thought It Was. The singer-songwriter dropped the project in March 2024, and the collection quickly showed itself to be a disappointment.
Everything I Thought It Was debuted in the lofty position of No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and while that would be an exciting placement for many other musicians, it’s underwhelming when it comes to Timberlake. The set stands out as his lowest-peaking solo collection on the Billboard 200 and his first to miss dominating the list of the most-consumed albums in America in more than a decade and a half.
There is no new music on the horizon from Timberlake, who has been relatively quiet throughout the past several months after he was arrested and charged with a DUI. The world is not done listening to him, though, and this week, one of Timberlake’s most recognizable hits returns to multiple Billboard charts.
Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” Returns to Two Charts
“Mirrors” reappears to both of Billboard’s worldwide rankings this week. The single reenters the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at No. 180 and barely makes it back onto the Billboard Global 200, where it settles in last place, at No. 200. The latter list measures consumption of popular songs around the world, and it includes activity in the United States. The Billboard Global Excl. U.S. removes American sales and streams from the equation.
“Mirrors” Becomes One of Justin Timberlake’s Longest-Charting Global Hits
Before this week, “Mirrors” was tied with Timberlake’s “Selfish” as his second-longest-charting hit on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Both had managed five frames on the rundown, but now “Mirrors” pulls ahead with its sixth stint, pushing “Selfish” into third place.
That is a lowly distinction for “Selfish,” considering Timberlake has only ever sent three tunes to the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. “Stay With Me,” his collaboration with Scottish electronic dance producer Calvin Harris, which also features Halsey and Pharrell Williams, remains his longest-running win with nine weeks on the chart.
Justin Timberlake Has Scored Four Global 200 Hits
Timberlake has sent four songs to the Billboard Global 200 since it was inaugurated in 2020. “Selfish,” “Stay With Me” and “Mirrors” have all appeared multiple times, while “Parent Trap,” his collaboration with Jack Harlow, spent just one frame on the ranking, debuting at No. 198 in May 2022.
“Mirrors” has now spent three weeks on the Billboard Global 200. That is fewer than either “Selfish” or “Stay With Me,” which held on for eight and five turns, respectively.
“Mirrors” Remains Justin Timberlake’s Lowest-Peaking Global Hit
“Mirrors” remains Timberlake’s worst performer on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. in terms of peak position. It is the only one of his three hits on the list to fail to crack the upper half of the 200-space rundown. “Mirrors” peaked at No. 136 shortly after debuting in late 2020.
Over on the Billboard Global 200, “Mirrors” is not the Grammy winner’s worst-performing smash. That distinction belongs to “Parent Trap,” which stalled at No. 198, barley landing on the tally as well. “Mirrors” has climbed as high as No. 160, while “Selfish” and “Stay With Me” both peaked where they debuted, at Nos. 33 and 73, respectively.
“Mirrors” Was a Massive Hit in America
Timberlake released “Mirrors” in February 2013 as a single from his album The 20/20 Experience, and the track went on to become one of the biggest hits of his career in America. “Mirrors” soared to No. 1 on multiple airplay rankings and stopped just short of becoming another champion for the singer and dancer on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stalled at No. 2.
