A Maryland father has claimed a $100,000 lottery windfall after his son bought him two identical Pick 5 tickets while out running errands.
The younger man knew his dad’s favorite game and preferred number combination 15670 and purchased a matching pair at the 7-Eleven on Ruby Lockhart Boulevard in Bowie, reports UPI.
Each ticket paid $50,000 for a combined prize of $100,000.
The father told Maryland Lottery officials his son mentioned he would grab lottery tickets during the errand run and offered to pick one up for him.
“My son was in the neighborhood while he was out running errands. He mentioned that he’d be picking up some lottery tickets, and told me he’d pick one up for me.”
The son said he sometimes buys two tickets with the same numbers even though the habit rarely pays off.
“I’ll sometimes buy two tickets with the same numbers. It rarely pays off for me, but it has in the past.”
The dad said he has won before but never at this scale — and never with two top prizes at once.
“I was amazed. I’ve won before, but never like this, never a top prize… and now I had two of them.”
