Mastercard is bringing its established fraud detection capabilities to stablecoin transactions.

The payment giant says it is launching a tool that lets financial institutions scan dollar-pegged token payments for fraud, scams and sanctions exposure before the money ever moves on-chain.

Mastercard’s Stablecoin Security, which was announced at the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas, applies the company’s proven risk management systems to the growing world of digital dollar tokens.

Says Ann Johnson, executive vice president, Security Solutions at Mastercard,

“Stablecoins are creating new possibilities for value exchange, but financial institutions need the right intelligence and controls to participate with confidence. By bringing payment and blockchain insights together, Stablecoin Security extends Mastercard’s fraud and risk capabilities to digital asset payments, giving institutions a clearer view of risk to make more informed decisions and build greater trust.”

In promoting the need for the new product, the company cited a recent study that looked at 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025 and found that nearly 60%
“were complex, multi-step transactions, rather than simple, one-to-one payments.”

Financial institutions will gain the ability to review transactions in advance, helping to block problematic activity at the source.

This development highlights how traditional payment giants are adapting their security infrastructure to newer blockchain-based payment rails.

The focus remains on proactive screening to maintain trust and compliance in stablecoin flows.
