Grand Theft Auto preview on Netflix

The market intelligence firm Sensor Tower released data on Thursday that showed a noticeable jump in usage of the Netflix app following the release of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
According to Abe Yousef, Senior Insights Analyst at Sensor Tower, Netflix U.S. mobile app users during the reveal (3:00-4:00 p.m. ET) on 8/27 were up almost 50% compared to the average registered on the 12 previous Thursdays at that same period, demonstrating the outsized impact this event had on engagement.
There was also a substantial engagement jump among Netflix’s web users, during the reveal, which soared more than 125% compared to the average registered on
the 12 previous Thursdays at that same period.
Data from Sensor Tower also showed engagement jumped substantially during the reveal from the previous hour. Netflix U.S. app users during the hour of the 3:00 p.m. reveal increased 35% compared to the prior hour, ~50% compared to the same time on the previous day and 41% vs the same period in the prior week (8/20 at 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET)

One of the reasons for the excitement surrounding the GTA VI release is the amount of time that has passed since the release of GTA V. GTA IV came out in 2008, and GTA V was released in 2013, both for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
When the last generation of consoles came out, Rockstar focused on expansion packs for GTA VI as it continued development on an updated version of the game.
Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19th to PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S.
Rockstar’s next big release is a GTA V remaster for Xbox Series and PS5 consoles, set for March 2027.
