More than 30 years after releasing its first album, Nickelback is gearing up to drop another full-length, one which has already produced some minor rock hits in America. The Canadian hard rock outfit shared its first album in 1996, but it wasn’t until 2001, when Silver Side Up arrived, that the group rocketed to superstardom. Since then, the outfit has remained massively successful in its home country of Canada and very popular in America – though its most recent full-length, Get Rollin’, marked its first to fail to enter the top 10 on the Billboard 200 in decades.

Nickelback has been busy throughout the year hyping the world for Everything Under the Sun, the band’s upcoming eleventh studio LP. The group began promoting the project this spring with a slew of singles, one of which is currently on the rise on various Billboard tallies. As “Rattle the Cage,” a collaboration featuring Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5, reaches new peak positions on several rosters, the song that first made Nickelback hitmakers debuts on another list, earning the Grammy-nominated act its first win on one very competitive roster.

Nickelback Scores Its First Billboard Global 200 Hit

“How You Remind Me” debuts at No. 181 on the Billboard Global 200 this week. The tally, one of two related lists, ranks the most-consumed songs of any style or language around the world using sales and streaming activity.

It is worth noting that the Billboard Global 200 and its companion tally, the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., were only launched in 2020. By that point, Nickelback’s chart fortunes had faded somewhat, when compared to its commercial peak. Plenty of older acts, whether legacy stars or those still working today, have yet to place on either worldwide roster, and in some tracking weeks, only a small spike in sales or streams can make the difference. This frame, such a boost has proved enough to finally give Nickelback its first global hit.

“How You Remind Me” Appears on Multiple Charts

“How You Remind Me” appears on a pair of Billboard charts this week. In addition to its Billboard Global 200 debut, the classic holds at No. 5 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking, which tracks the most-streamed hard rock tunes throughout the United States.

The single has now spent 244 weeks on that roster, and it previously came within one space of the summit. Nickelback’s hit peaked at No. 2 just two summers ago. “How You Remind Me” is one of only two Nickelback songs to reach the tally. “Rockstar” also made the cut for a short time, debuting and peaking at No. 23 in March 2022.

Nickelback’s “Rattle the Cage” Reaches New Peak Positions

As “How You Remind Me” becomes Nickelback’s first Billboard Global 200 smash, “Rattle the Cage” rises to new highs on nearly every ranking where it appears. The collaboration with John 5 rocks its way to No. 14 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart and to No. 6 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay tally. The tune has now spent five weeks on both radio rosters.

“Rattle the Cage” also appears on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, though it does not ascend like on the other two rankings. Instead, the single falls from No. 6 to No. 10 after previously climbing as high as third place.

Nickelback Scores Another Mainstream Rock Top 10

At No. 6 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, “Rattle the Cage” is counted as one of Nickelback’s 21 top 10 hits on the ranking. The group has conquered the roster eight times, including with “How You Remind Me,” which is tied as its longest-running leader. That smash spent 13 frames at No. 1, matching the run managed by “Figured You Out.” “Rattle the Cage” now sits alongside “This Means War,” which also topped out at No. 6 back in 2012.

“Rattle the Cage” Becomes One of Nickelback’s Biggest Airplay Hits

As it climbs to No. 14 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, “Rattle the Cage” passes “This Means War” and becomes Nickelback’s fourth-highest-charting hit ever on the broad rock radio ranking. Only “Burn It to the Ground,” “San Quentin” and “Bottoms Up” have risen higher, and all three spent time inside the top 10. “Burn It to the Ground” peaked at No. 7, while both “San Quentin” and “Bottoms Up” topped out at No. 8.
