TLDR
- Nvidia has made a “substantial” investment in Safe Superintelligence (SSI), reported by Bloomberg as $5B
- The deal includes a long-term strategic partnership between Nvidia and SSI
- SSI will gain access to Nvidia’s next-gen Vera Rubin GPU platform, boosting its compute “by an order of magnitude”
- The two companies will also collaborate on Nvidia’s current and future compute platforms
- SSI raised $2B in April 2025 at a $32B valuation; this deal marks a major step up in scale
Nvidia has announced a long-term strategic partnership with Safe Superintelligence, the AI lab founded by former OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever. Bloomberg reported the investment at $5B, though neither company disclosed the official figure, describing it only as “substantial.”
The news dropped Monday, with Nvidia stock trading near its recent highs. NVDA has been one of the best-performing large-cap names over the past two years, and moves like this reinforce why.
SSI will receive access to Nvidia’s Vera Rubin GPU platform as part of the deal. That access is expected to increase SSI’s available compute by an order of magnitude — a meaningful jump for a lab that has been working quietly for two years on what it calls a new research direction.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised Sutskever directly in a statement. “Ilya has pioneered fundamental breakthroughs at the foundation of modern AI, beginning with AlexNet,” Huang said. “We are excited to see what new breakthroughs SSI will discover powered by our Vera Rubin platform.”
Sutskever was equally direct. “We have research that is worthy of scaling up, and having access to a big NVIDIA computer will let us do so,” he said.
What SSI Brings to the Table
SSI has kept its research closely guarded since launching. Nvidia said it entered the partnership only after gaining “rare access” into that research — suggesting the investment was not a routine deal.
The lab’s focus is on building AI that is both powerful and robustly aligned. That combination appears to be what caught Nvidia’s attention.
SSI had already raised $2B in funding in April 2025 at a $32B valuation. This new partnership puts significantly more compute behind that work.
Nvidia’s Pattern With AI Labs
This is not Nvidia’s first move of this kind. The company has a similar partnership in place with OpenAI.
Rival AMD recently struck a comparable deal with Anthropic. The pattern suggests top-tier AI labs are locking in hardware partnerships early as the race for next-generation compute heats up.
Beyond hardware supply, Nvidia and SSI will collaborate on the technical development of Nvidia’s current and future platforms. SSI’s research insights will feed directly into that work.
That makes this more than a sales agreement. It positions Nvidia inside SSI’s development process — and SSI inside Nvidia’s roadmap.
Sutskever said the partnership reflects confidence in the Vera Rubin platform specifically. “We are confident that our big bet on the Vera Rubin platform will take us to the next level,” he added.
The Vera Rubin platform represents Nvidia’s next generation of GPU infrastructure, succeeding the Blackwell architecture.
SSI’s $32B valuation from April 2025 already made it one of the most valuable private AI companies. The Nvidia deal adds hardware firepower to that foundation.
