Key Insights
- Nvidia stock traded within 2.3% of its record high.
- Nvidia reported $99 billion in equity investments by July 26.
- Hugging Face acquisition expanded Nvidia’s exposure beyond chip sales.
Nvidia stock closed near its record high on Sept. 4 as investors assessed the chipmaker’s expanding artificial intelligence investments. The shares ended at $230.36, leaving them below the May record. Nvidia’s latest filing also showed a sharp expansion in equity holdings.
The move mattered because Nvidia increasingly combines chip sales with direct exposure to artificial intelligence companies. That strategy could deepen customer ties while raising balance-sheet sensitivity to private and public technology valuations.
Nvidia Stock Moves Closer to Its Record High
Yahoo Finance data showed Nvidia stock closed at $230.36 on Sept. 4. The shares rose 0.84% during the session and remained below their $235.74 record.

That left the stock about 2.3% below its May 14 peak. The advance followed broader strength across artificial intelligence-linked semiconductor names during the week.
Reuters reported that Dell raised its annual outlook following stronger demand for artificial intelligence servers. Dell said orders remained supported by systems using Nvidia chips and other accelerated-computing hardware.
Dell also reported a $95 billion backlog and $60 billion in artificial intelligence server orders. That data offered another demand indicator for Nvidia-powered infrastructure across large enterprise deployments.
That demand backdrop supported the NVDA stock price as investors continued pricing future data-center spending. Still, the stock remained sensitive to expectations regarding hyperscaler capital expenditure and competition from custom chips.
Nvidia Stock Reflects a Larger Equity Investment Strategy
Nvidia’s Aug. 26 Form 10-Q showed $99 billion in equity investments as of July 26. The filing also listed another $25 billion in equity investment commitments.

A year earlier, Nvidia reported about $3.2 billion in publicly held equity securities. It also carried roughly $3.8 billion in non-marketable equity securities.
Those figures placed combined equity holdings near $7 billion in July 2025. The latest total therefore represented an increase of roughly 1,315% over one year.
Nvidia said these investments supported growth opportunities, ecosystem development, and its competitive position. The company also warned that public equity holdings remained exposed to market-price volatility.
The filing showed $42.8 billion in marketable equity securities at quarter-end. Nvidia also reported $51.2 billion in non-marketable securities on its balance sheet.
Nvidia recorded $12.5 billion in unrealized gains on public equity holdings during the fiscal first half. That figure showed how investment valuations can affect reported income alongside operating performance.
These positions widened Nvidia’s financial exposure beyond hardware sales. They also connected the company more directly with firms that may buy computing capacity later.
Nvidia Expands Its AI Platform Exposure
Nvidia also agreed to acquire Hugging Face for about $12.93 billion on Sept. 3. Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang announced the agreement through Nvidia’s official corporate blog.

Huang said Hugging Face would remain open to different models, clouds, and computing platforms. Nvidia said the platform served more than 18 million developers and creators.
The acquisition extended Nvidia’s presence beyond graphics processing units and networking equipment. It added a widely used artificial intelligence development platform to the company’s broader ecosystem.
OpenAI separately released GPT-6 Astra on Sept. 3. OpenAI described Astra as its most capable model for coding, research, computer use, and multi-step work.
OpenAI’s official release did not state how many Nvidia GPUs trained Astra. It also did not verify social-media claims citing 100,000 Grace Blackwell systems.
Nvidia documentation showed its GB200 NVL72 architecture connects 72 Blackwell GPUs in one NVLink domain. That design targets large training and inference workloads across tightly connected systems.
Nvidia Stock Faces Its Next Corporate Catalysts
Nvidia’s Aug. 26 results provided the latest earnings benchmark for investors. The company reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% from a year earlier.
The company also continued capital returns while expanding investments. Its filing showed $39.8 billion in share repurchases during the first half.
Nvidia also held $56.6 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable debt securities. That liquidity supported investment commitments, acquisitions, capital spending, and shareholder returns.
Investors will now watch execution around Hugging Face and Nvidia’s expanding investment portfolio. They will also track whether artificial intelligence infrastructure demand supports revenue growth at current expectations.
For Nvidia stock, the immediate market reference remains the $235.74 record high. A break above that level would mark a new price peak, while weaker demand signals could delay another attempt.
