Another Sunday and another tricky NYT Connections to solve. If you’re looking for help with today’s puzzling NYT Connections puzzle, this guide is here to help with some extra clues and every connection for the Yellow, Blue, Green and Purple groups.
The first Sunday of September is here and we have some big Connections news to drop in your laps. The NYT Games App has launched new weekly puzzles that are special twists on games like Wordle and Connections. NYT Connections Hints And Answers – Sunday, August 23
Below, we’ll get into some extra hints for each Connections group – Yellow, Blue, Green and Purple – and then the official clues and answers.

Here’s an Extra Hint for Each Connections Group
- 🟡Yellow group – license to kill
- 🟢Green group – go look at your laptop or desktop
- 🔵Blue group – FYI it’s the beginning of the two words that matters
- 🟣Purple group – the unifier is in the second of the two words here
One Word for Each Connections Group:

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
- The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow. The Connections answers are:
- 🟡Yellow group – blank check, carte blanche, free rein, full authority
- 🟢Green group – card slot, headphone jack, optical drive, usb port
- 🔵Blue group – atm machine, lcd display, pin number, upc code
- 🟣Purple group – court scribe, director’s cut, pizza slice, sat score

Today’s NYT Connections is a 3/5 on the Connections Bot difficulty scale and I found it quite challenging simply because there were so many red herrings. Also, CARD SLOT really sounds like something in an ATM MACHINE more than in a computer!
Of course, once you see the Connections you realize they’re pretty obvious, and Yellow was easy enough. ATM / LCD / PIN / UPC are all pretty obvious once you stop trying to make some of them work with some of the green words!
