OpenAI introduces College Planner to ChatGPT for Teens, adding college planning tools and expanding its educational features.
OpenAI has unveiled the College Planner feature for its ChatGPT for Teens platform, announced on October 7, 2026. This addition aims to support teenagers in managing their college application processes, broadening the scope of AI-driven educational tools available to younger users.
Evidence and context
According to OpenAI, College Planner will be integrated directly into ChatGPT for Teens, a version of the AI tool tailored to younger audiences and introduced in September 2026. The feature is designed to assist students in organizing and planning their college applications, leveraging the conversational interface of ChatGPT. Additional tools include flashcards, quizzes, and a teen AI council, reflecting OpenAI’s broader focus on education initiatives.
This development aligns with OpenAI’s previous efforts to embed AI into education. Recent examples include ChatGPT Edu, which supports universities, and OpenAI Academy, which offers resources for higher education. By expanding these capabilities to younger users, OpenAI appears to be targeting a significant segment of the education market.
The importance of such tools lies in their potential to streamline traditionally complex tasks like college applications, making them accessible and manageable for teens. While College Planner’s impact remains to be seen, its integration within the broader ChatGPT framework suggests a focus on providing seamless, AI-backed support for educational planning.
