Peter Brandt’s Fool Coin Label Draws ‘He’s A Fool’ Reply From Versan Aljarrah

Veteran trader Peter Brandt has dismissed XRP as a “fool coin” while his own chart points to a $5.40 price target. Versan Aljarrah, founder of Black Swan Capitalist, told Coinpedia that the contradiction is easy to explain. He says, a price target is a trade, and it says nothing about why the asset matters.

What Brandt said about XRP

Brandt, who has traded markets for more than 40 years, has questioned whether XRP’s use in payments gives it investment value. In an interview, he argued that a transactional use case does not automatically make XRP worth more.

His main points:

  • The dollar comparison: Nobody buys dollars because they are useful for transactions, so that alone should not make XRP valuable.
  • Price discovery: Utility will eventually force the market to find a real value for XRP. Until that happens, he treats its valuation case as unproven.
  • Supply: He considers XRP’s supply picture still unclear.

Brandt views Ether and Solana more favourably and has warned investors against chasing new crypto tokens.

“His target is a trade, not a thesis”

Aljarrah began by correcting how the debate has been framed. “A chart doesn’t care what the person drawing it believes,” he said.

In his view, Brandt’s $5.40 call shows where the price could go, not why XRP matters. “Those are two different questions, and mixing them up is where most people get confused,” he said.

Where he says Brandt’s argument fails

Aljarrah’s strongest objection was to the “fool coin” label. “Calling an asset a fool’s coin while ignoring what’s been built around it isn’t analysis, it’s an opinion,” he said.

He pointed to three developments:

  • Legal clarity: A US court ruled that programmatic sales of XRP were not securities, and the SEC case has since been closed.
  • Institutional build-out: Ripple has made acquisitions in prime brokerage and corporate treasury and launched its regulated stablecoin, RLUSD, on the XRP Ledger.
  • Regulated products: Investment products tied to XRP now exist, giving institutions exposure through channels they already use.

A debate he calls fair

Aljarrah accepted that XRP’s future as a bridge asset for global settlement is not settled. “Whether XRP ultimately wins as the bridge asset in global settlement is a fair debate, and I always hold that view with humility,” he said.

But he argued that dismissing the fundamentals means ignoring a shift in payments, tokenization and settlement that is already under way. “That’s the part I’d push back on hardest,” he said.

His advice to investors

Aljarrah said investors should hold their own thesis, use charts “as a tool and not a crystal ball,” and plan entries and exits in advance so that no headline can shake them.

He closed with a blunt verdict on Brandt: “He’s a fool in my humble opinion, like most people in this ecosystem.”
