Former FTX chief operating officer Constance Wang says she was upset by the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming drama about the exchange’s collapse. She said the first 30 seconds were enough for her to stop watching.

Wang made the comments to Cointelegraph on the Chain Reaction X spaces show, in an episode published on Monday. She said the trailer’s depiction of some former FTX executives made her “feel physically upset.”

What Wang said about the portrayal

Wang said the show’s version of Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison did not match her own experience. She did not say what specifically differed.

She also said FTX co-founder and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was more “socially awkward” than the way Netflix shows him. Wang worked with both executives before the exchange failed.

Netflix released the trailer in early October. The series is called The Altruists and has eight episodes.

The show will premiere worldwide on Nov. 19, 2026, according to Netflix’s announcement.

How FTX collapsed

Wang served as COO of FTX, which grew into one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges. It collapsed in November 2022 after customer funds were misused.

The failure left an $8.9 billion shortfall in customer funds. Bankman-Fried moved customer money to Alameda Research without consent.

Alameda, the sister trading firm, used those funds to cover its trading losses. This is now known as the Alameda gap.

What Wang is doing now

Wang founded Pacifica in early 2025. The platform started as a perpetual futures decentralized exchange built on Solana.

She plans to add artificial intelligence features. She wants to turn it into what she calls an “intelligent trading infrastructure” with tools for investors.

Wang said Pacifica has not raised outside money. “For Pacifica, we didn’t raise any funds, it’s completely bootstrapped,” she said.

She added that some institutional investors faced compliance limits when talking to former FTX staff. Those limits applied while the bankruptcy case was still going.

Legal outcomes for FTX leaders

Bankman-Fried and Ellison were indicted in December 2022. Ellison took a plea deal to testify against Bankman-Fried.

She was released from prison in January after serving 440 days of a two-year sentence.

Bankman-Fried was convicted on seven felony counts. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2024, with a release date set for 2044.

In September, his lawyers reportedly asked the US Supreme Court to overturn his fraud conviction. He has also applied for a pardon from US President Donald Trump.

Netflix’s The Altruists is set to premiere on Nov. 19, 2026.
