What to know:

  • The Pi Network upgrade requires Mainnet nodes to move to Protocol 25 before the June 18 deadline.
  • Node operators risk disconnection if they fail to complete the mandatory upgrade soon.
  • Protocol 25 follows Protocol 23 as the Pi Network expands its Mainnet infrastructure base.

The Pi Network upgrade rules have been updated and now require Mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol 25 ahead of June 18. The Pi Core Team has indicated that nodes that fail to update by the deadline may lose access to the network after the deadline; thus, the update will be mandatory for ongoing network participation.

The announcement was made officially by the Pi Core Team in a notification dated June 9. The team has warned users that this process will take more time compared to previous ones.

Pi Network Upgrade Moves Forward After Protocol 23

The Pi Network upgrade applies to all Mainnet nodes. The Core Team said every operator must complete the required step before the deadline to remain connected to the network.

Pi Network did not release much information regarding the technical details of Protocol 25 in the announcement. Nonetheless, Protocol 25 was launched by the team as one of their efforts towards enhancing the infrastructure capabilities of the Pi Network as development in the mainnet proceeds.

The Protocol 25 launch comes after the previous protocol launch of Protocol 23. This move has been referred to by Pi Network as one of the most complicated upgrades to the project’s infrastructure.

According to the Pi Core Team in May, most Mainnet nodes have already upgraded to Protocol 23. This is yet another step in the overall development of the Mainnet of the Pi Network.

The recent launch of the Pi Network protocol shows that the project is still progressing with its phase-based infrastructure development effort.

Node Operators Remain Key to Pi Network Expansion

This network describes its development approach as “progressive decentralization.” This means that it seeks to increase the involvement of more people in the running of the network despite trying to ensure stability amid expansion.

Node operators have an important place in the setup. The node operator document from Pi Network states that operators are assessed based on aspects like uptime, connection, performance, security circles, and trust.

The new Pi Network upgrade comes even as the project looks to further develop its Mainnet ecosystem. Improved node setup will be essential as the network looks to expand.

With the June 18 deadline looming, the expectation is for node operators to migrate to Protocol 25 over the next few days. Node operators who do so will be able to stay connected while those failing to migrate stand a chance of getting disconnected.
