The feature was launched by Pump.fun on June 4 and quickly attracted participants from around the world. The platform allows users to create and fund challenges that others can complete for cryptocurrency payouts.

Since launch, more than $370,000 has already been distributed to participants. Pump.fun also stated that over $200,000 remains available through hundreds of active bounties.

Some challenges focus on simple acts of kindness. Participants have received rewards for feeding stray cats and donating clothing. Other tasks are designed more for entertainment.

One participant earned crypto after pouring a gallon of milk over his head while shouting the name of a cryptocurrency. Another collected a payout for appearing in public dressed in a gorilla suit with promotional text displayed across his chest.

The platform describes itself as a place where anyone can create or complete tasks for rewards. However, participants are responsible for any risks involved in carrying out those challenges.

Extreme Challenges Raise Safety Concerns

While some bounties are harmless, others have raised concerns due to their potential consequences. One participant received a large crypto reward after permanently tattooing the platform’s branding on his forehead. Similar tattoo-related challenges have also appeared on the site.

One of the challenges among the highly remunerated active challenges involves climbing to the top of Mount Everest while placing a bet in a particular location where one would win more than $57,000.

Another high-value challenge requires attending all the World Cup matches while showing a promotional sign. It is claimed that a particular challenge led to someone jumping with a parachute into a football match prior to his expulsion from the challenge.

Some challenges require participants to leave their work on camera, appear in public, or get an extreme haircut, all of which is encouraged by memecoins.

Critics Compare Platform To Fictional Dystopias

As the use of the bounty system is increasing rapidly, a lot of criticism of it has emerged. For instance, one side claims that monetary incentives will make a person act in an embarrassing or even harmful way.

The critics claim that the platform uses people who are ready to do everything possible in order to receive money. Numerous celebrities and social media users have stated their opinion about the platform.

Most of them compare the platform to a TV program where desperation becomes intertwined with entertainment.

Some say that the participants will try to go further in order to receive more money. Nevertheless, the platform continues to attract many people and to be a subject of discussion despite the wave of criticism towards it.
