The Revolut hack has become more serious in nature after the hackers have threatened to publish even more sensitive details about their customers unless the company agrees to pay a ransom.

It has been reported that the leaked details contain selfies and copies of identity documents from tennis player Alexander Shevchenko and Felix Römer, who is the CEO of the crypto casino platform Gamdom. The news was published by the International Cyber Digest on X.

From the Telegram messages that have been reported, the hackers threatened to continue leaking more customers’ information each day unless Revolut agrees to pay them for their data. The threat shows that other pieces of information could be leaked in the future.

Revolut Hack Exposes Sensitive Customer Information

The mentioned Revolut hack may lead to substantial privacy threats to those customers whose data were compromised. Identity documentation as well as facial recognition photos might be of great value to scammers, as they might be used for identity theft and other types of fraud.

Revolut warned its customers that the compromised data may consist of full names, birthdays, occupation, and contact information. Some of the customers’ information might include account statements and transaction history, including Bitcoin transactions.

There are additional risks involved when transaction details get exposed in relation to those concerned individuals. By linking the transaction history to individual data and identities, the criminals can have enough ammunition to craft more credible phishing emails or impersonation efforts.

How the Revolut Hack Happened

According to Revolut, the case occurred due to the sophisticated impersonation fraud carried out by external attackers. Revolut reported that the attacker had been able to use a fake e-mail address that belonged to an actual domain name of a legitimate governmental body in order to get access to the personal data of customers.

It can be seen from the above that the attack did not involve any hacking of the central system of Revolut but only some social engineering techniques.

Revolut later confirmed that the impact was limited to only a few clients. Revolut also confirmed that there was no impact on its systems or client funds.

Attackers Threaten Further Revolut Data Releases

The leak of customer data is yet another worry that comes with the Revolut hack. The fact that the attackers have promised to leak out more data every day may affect even more customers who were harmed by this breach.

While Revolut claims that all customer funds are secure, it is the leaked personal information that exposes them to fraud and targeted attacks.

The organization has not yet officially confirmed all individuals whose data was reported to have been published.

The Revolut hack is an example of increased threats facing financial organizations because of social engineering hacks. Even though a firm may be well-protected from any system or monetary theft, unauthorized access to private data can bring some very real issues.

The victims of the data breach must exercise extreme caution with any emails, messages, or calls that might try to capitalize on the information that was released. They must not disclose any personal information, click on any suspicious links, or respond to any request for information.
