Samsung product manager Lee Dinham said the wallet will expand beyond cash and savings to include stablecoins. The goal is to combine payments, rewards and digital assets in one mobile app.

Samsung says it intends to become one of the first major smartphone brands to offer native stablecoin functionality, letting users transfer digital value directly from their devices.

The company has not confirmed which stablecoins will be supported, when the feature will go live, or which blockchain networks will be involved. Regional availability has also not been disclosed.

However, Samsung did demo a USDC interface during the event, showing send, receive and top-up features. That suggests the dollar-backed stablecoin could be among the first to be supported when the feature launches.

All financial features in the wallet will be protected by Samsung Knox security with end-to-end encryption, the company said.

Building on Existing Crypto Services

This is not Samsung’s first move into crypto. In October 2025, Samsung expanded its partnership with Coinbase, letting Galaxy users in the US buy crypto directly through Samsung Wallet. That rollout initially covered more than 75 million Galaxy users.

Coinbase Chief Business Officer Shan Aggarwal said at the time that the deal combined Samsung’s global reach with Coinbase’s platform to make digital assets easier to access. New users got a three-month Coinbase One subscription as part of the launch.

Samsung Wallet already holds payment cards, digital IDs, rewards programs and other credentials. The stablecoin feature would add another layer to that existing setup.

Samsung’s Wider Blockchain Moves

Outside its consumer wallet, Samsung has been building positions in South Korea’s digital asset sector.

In May 2026, Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS and Samsung Card agreed to buy a combined 4% stake in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea’s largest crypto exchange, Upbit. The three affiliates paid 612.8 billion won, around $408 million, for the stake.

Samsung Securities said it plans to work with Dunamu on tokenized securities, while Samsung Card identified potential collaboration on digital asset payments and possible won-backed stablecoins through its Monimo platform.

Keeping Distance from External Projects

Samsung has been selective about which stablecoin projects it backs publicly.

Earlier this month, Samsung distanced itself from Open Standard’s proposed OUSD stablecoin consortium after being listed as one of more than 140 founding partners. A Samsung official said the company had not held official consultations with Open Standard and was unaware of the role it was expected to play.

Other listed partners including Dunamu, Shinhan Bank and K-Bank also said they were still reviewing the proposal and had not formally agreed to join.

Samsung’s latest announcement keeps the focus on building within its own ecosystem rather than joining external governance structures.

Samsung Electronics stock fell 7.6% to ₩249,500 on Friday.
