Dormant Bitcoin from the coin’s early days has suddenly awakened after more than 15 years, Galaxy Research reported.

In an X post, Galaxy Research reported that 28.46 BTC, currently worth $2.43 million, of UTXOs untouched since first received on June 12, 2011, about 15.2 years ago, just moved in block 970281. Unspent Transaction Outputs, or UTXOs, represent specific amounts of Bitcoin that were received but not yet spent.

The wallet owner bought the said BTC at about $15 per BTC, giving the long-dormant holding a remarkable realized gain of about 582,198%, according to the tracking data.

The coins attract attention because they date back to Bitcoin’s earliest years, just after the time when Satoshi Nakamoto was still active in the Bitcoin community between 2010 and early 2011. Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, exited the scene in April 2011, sending a final email stating, “I’ve moved on to other things” and leaving the project in the hands of core developers.
