Shiba Inu Community Issues Crucial Alert Over Lookalike Token Threat

A crucial warning has emerged for the Shiba Inu community amid a recent disclosure of multiple Ethereum tokens using the TREAT name and ticker.

Long-time Shiba Inu community member Mazrael, in a recent X conversation, pointed to over 366 tokens on Ethereum alone with the TREAT ticker.

“If anyone is saying there are two tokens with that ticker, it’s low-key an ad for scammers. There are 366 tokens on ETH alone with the TREAT-named ticker,” Mazrael wrote.

Mazrael was reacting to a post by X user ‘BAPA-Fortuna,’ who called attention to the fact that there were other tokens with the TREAT ticker. He pointed to two different Ethereum tokens using the TREAT name/ticker.

The official TREAT token for the Shiba Inu ecosystem exists on Ethereum and Shibarium, and he shared the respective contract addresses. An older Ethereum token using the TREAT name and ticker reportedly dates back to Jan. 13, 2023. However, it is a separate token and should not be confused with or associated with the Shiba Inu ecosystem.

The warning urges users to verify the contract address and never to identify a token by its ticker alone.

Shibarium receives quiet upgrades

Shiba Inu layer-2 Shibarium continues to receive silent upgrades. This week, Mazrael informed the community that ‘x402 is live on Shibarium.’ x402 is an open, neutral standard for internet-native payments. It makes payments possible between clients and servers, creating win-win economies that empower agentic payments at scale.

x402 enables instant, low-cost payments for digital services, and it is designed for API monetization, agentic commerce, paywalled content, and any scenario where traditional payment methods are too slow or expensive.

Mazrael shared details of the x402 upgrade: “Permit2, the x402 proxy, the SignatureValidator—all at the same canonical addresses x402 uses on Ethereum, Base and Polygon. Any x402 client works on chain 109 with zero custom code. Most facilitators are USDC-only; they settle through EIP-3009, and USDC is what implements it. The Permit2 route takes any ERC-20.”

Mazrael noted that AI agents can pay in SHIB, TREAT, or wrapped BONE.
