What to know:

  • Solana price holds above the $74.50 Bollinger Bands midpoint.
  • A whale opens a $38.42 million SOL long with 20x leverage.
  • Rising open interest adds strength to the potential SOL breakout setup.

A $38.4 million leveraged SOL long has added a bullish signal to Solana’s current price setup as the token continues to hold above a key technical level.

Solana price continues to stay above $74.50 as higher derivatives activity puts the market in a complicated yet constructive setup. The combination of a major whale position and rising open interest could become important as SOL approaches its next resistance level.

Why Does Solana Price Hold Over $74.50?

As seen on the Solana price chart from TradingView, SOL has been consolidating around $76 after its recovery from lows reached in June. The significance of the $74.50 level can be seen in the fact that it represents a point where the Bollinger Bands middle line lies, serving as an immediate support level.

SOL still trades below $77.48, the upper Bollinger Band level. The current Bollinger Bands range between $71.52 and $77.48, with the midpoint at $74.50.

Trading above the midpoint indicates that there is still some buyer strength, but price action has come close to the upper band to make resistance count. OBV is currently at 505.08 million. It has had quite a modest movement of late, indicating no clear buyer strength.

What Does the $38.4M SOL Whale Long Signal?

According to a post by crypto markets analyst @TedPillows, “a whale opened a $38,420,500 $SOL long with 20x leverage.” The liquidation level for this position has been stated as $61.09 based on the accompanying screenshot.

It brings a bullish derivatives signal in the case of SOL, which has a neutral-to-bullish technical outlook at present.

Since SOL is currently trading at $76.20 and has broken above the $74.50 Bollinger Band midpoint, the whale’s long position indicates a bet on further gains in the coin. However, $77.48 is the upper Bollinger Band level at present.

What’s the Effect of Open Interest on Solana Price?

According to CoinGlass data, Solana’s open interest has begun moving back towards the $4.9 billion mark, from around $4.5 billion seen during the recent visible time frame.

With open interest on the rise, as well as relatively unchanged SOL price action, we see that more traders are getting involved in the derivatives market.

This could mean a bigger price move when the market eventually breaks from its current range.

What Does Solana Trading Volume Signal to Investors?

CoinGlass volume figures continue to show strong values, reaching about $5-$6 billion on average per day in the most recent trading sessions available. However, SOL has not managed to make a breakthrough, demonstrating that even active trading is not able to set any obvious trend yet.

Will Solana Manage to Surpass $77.48?

The next bullish pattern will appear once SOL manages to sustain itself above the level of $77.48, which could give a chance for reaching the key resistance at $84.28.

In case of falling below $74.50, the existing pattern will lose its relevance, putting the level of $71.52 under attention again
