TLDR

  • SOL climbed back above $100, up roughly 1.5% on the day
  • The $95–$100 zone is now key technical support following August’s breakout
  • The Fed raised rates by 25 basis points, its first hike in over three years
  • The U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, adding regulatory uncertainty
  • Institutional access expanded after regulators approved Solana-linked ETPs on Nasdaq

Solana is trading just above $100 after recovering from a brief dip below that level. The move keeps SOL within range of its August breakout highs, but two major headwinds are keeping traders cautious.

The token rallied from around $70 to above $100 in August, breaking through a key resistance zone at $90–$97. That former resistance is now acting as support, and how SOL handles this zone will likely set the tone for what comes next.

Momentum has eased. Solana’s relative strength index is sitting near 53 on the daily chart, down from above 80 during the August rally. That puts the token in neutral territory, with the earlier overbought conditions now largely cleared.

Fed Hikes Rates for First Time Since 2023

The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points on Wednesday, bringing the target range to 3.75%–4.00%. It was the Fed’s first rate increase in over three years, with officials citing ongoing inflation pressures.

The Fed also signalled more hikes could follow, pushing the U.S. dollar to a seven-week high. Higher rates tend to make speculative assets like crypto less attractive compared to bonds and cash, and a stronger dollar adds further pressure on dollar-denominated assets.

Bitcoin fell sharply after the announcement before recovering as investors processed the message.

CLARITY Act Falls Short in Senate

The U.S. Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act. The bill was designed to create a clear regulatory framework for digital assets and define the roles of the SEC and CFTC.

It got a narrow majority but did not reach the 60-vote threshold needed to move forward. Bitcoin and major crypto equities fell following the vote, with altcoins including Solana also under pressure.

Reuters reported the defeat leaves the U.S. crypto regulatory landscape dependent on existing agency rules and court decisions rather than formal legislation.

Analyst Celal Kucuker shared a bullish long-term view on SOL, writing that “$59 → $1,000” is possible if the weekly chart develops into a parabolic move, identifying $59 as a potential major bottom. He noted the forecast could be wrong.

Regulators did approve changes allowing Nasdaq-listed ETPs tied to Solana and XRP earlier this month, giving traditional investors another route to gain exposure to SOL.

Solana’s key levels to watch are $95–$100 as support, $105 and then $110 as upside targets, and $83.90 as a deeper support zone if the current range breaks down.
