One of Canada’s biggest banks is expanding its utilization of agentic artificial intelligence technologies.

TD Bank Group this week unveiled multiple new capabilities targeting Real Estate Secured Lending, as the financial titan bolsters “use of AI across the mortgage lifecycle.”

TD describes Agentic AI as a “form of artificial intelligence that can coordinate multiple tasks, analyze information across systems, identify relevant insights, generate recommended outputs, and support complex business workflows.”

The mortgage-focused capabilities from TD’s in-house Layer 6 department coordinate multi-step document verification, connect information across systems, and generate outputs for colleague review, according to a statement from the bank, thereby automating time-intensive tasks so colleagues can concentrate on the human connection.

“We’re focused on using agentic AI where it can make the biggest difference for our teams and clients,” says Mohit Veoli, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Secured Lending at TD.

The move builds on TD’s May launch of agentic AI for mortgage pre-adjudication.

“By simplifying repetitive parts of the mortgage journey, AI can make everyday work easier and reduce friction for clients,” Veoli stated. “Our colleagues remain at the centre, using the technology to augment their expertise and deliver an even better experience.”

Layer 6 is TD’s AI research and development centre with a mission to advance agentic AI that is designed to support faster, simpler, and more consistent experiences by reducing administrative friction.

“AI is becoming an increasingly important part of how we innovate and work,” explains Maks Volkovs, Senior Vice President and Chief AI Scientist for Layer 6 AI at TD.

Home lending “is a powerful example,” Volkovs suggests, “evolving from a single agentic AI use case to a portfolio of capabilities that work alongside colleagues and give them more time for clients and complex decisions.”

TD recently committed $25 million to support AI development through a collaboration between Cohere and Layer 6.

The big bank, alongside a slew of others, is also co-developing Canadian dollar based digital money solutions.
