TL;DR:
- The custodial Wallet bot on Telegram is rebranded to Walt, offering support for over 300 digital assets.
- Telegram deploys Gram Wallet in parallel as an integrated non-custodial solution for internal payments and peer-to-peer transfers.
- User account balances, addresses, and balances remain unaffected following the platform’s technical migration.
Messaging app Telegram is restructuring its digital financial ecosystem through the Walt rebrand and the phased rollout of its new native non-custodial wallet.
Wallet becomes Walt
What started as a wallet to buy Toncoin has grown into a full-scale crypto platform for trading, investing, earning and more, with access to 300 assets.

This Monday, September 28, the platform’s development team announced the move, formalizing the split of its services into two distinct products. On one hand, the custodial tool formerly known as Wallet in Telegram assumes the brand name Walt. On the other hand, the company is embedding Gram Wallet directly inside the messaging interface.
This operational shift reflects a deliberate separation of functions for its user base.
An industry source noted that Walt will serve as a hub focused on advanced trading, investing, and multi-chain portfolio management featuring more than 300 supported assets. The company’s official release states that the service expanded past its original role as a simple token swap channel, prompting the shift to an independent brand.
Meanwhile, Gram Wallet will assume the role of a self-custody wallet tailored for daily utility. The tool handles peer-to-peer micropayments between contacts, transfers without extra network fees, and purchases of digital collectibles inside the application, such as premium usernames and virtual numbers.
Both solutions will maintain an internal communications bridge to enable seamless cross-transfers of liquidity.
Technical Segmentation Between Custody and Daily Utility
The technical architecture deployed in this rollout keeps previous records intact. According to technical specifications released by Walt’s developers, existing accounts, balances, and wallet addresses will not require manual migrations by registered account holders.
The integration model aims to curb operational vulnerabilities common across the decentralized ecosystem.
Official details indicate that the contract’s automated update system seeks to eliminate phishing links and fraud attempts that typically emerge during corporate token migration notices. By doing so, the platform delegates compatibility verification directly to the protocol without requiring external authorizations from the user.
Market activity picked up following confirmation of the corporate restructuring.
During Monday’s session on September 28, the network’s token posted a gain exceeding 2% to trade near $1.40, accompanied by a 137% surge in 24-hour trading volume, according to aggregate market metrics. Charting data shared by independent analysts suggests that the asset had been moving within a falling wedge formation on four-hour timeframes, a setup that frequently precedes volatility breakouts.
Corporate leadership projects that decoupling the two tools could streamline onboarding for newcomers to decentralized finance.
Spokespersons for Walt explained that Gram Wallet acts as an accessible entry point for everyday transactions, providing a pathway from which a segment of users may eventually transition to the advanced investment instruments available on the custodial platform.
General access to Gram Wallet will proceed through a staged rollout over coming weeks, during which Telegram will confirm the territorial availability schedule for its full feature set.
