Tether XAU₮ Gains Islamic Finance Approval

The certification, led by Mufti Faraz Adam of Amanah Advisors, confirms that XAU₮ meets key Shariah requirements, including real ownership of physical gold, transparent asset backing, and the absence of interest-based mechanisms, leverage, and speculative derivatives.

XAU₮ is a unit that represents one entire troy ounce of gold, and it comes from a London Good Delivery bar stored in Switzerland. It means that every single token of XAU₮ is linked to a real bar of gold by serial number, purity, and weight.

Gold is the most respected store of value in Islamic finance, which it has been doing successfully for more than 1,400 years. However, there are difficulties associated with holding gold; the storage of gold and the transfer of its value across borders are difficult tasks.

Tether Gold is a perfect blend of the stability of physical gold and the speed of blockchain technology. XAU₮ is not just another tracker for the value of gold; rather, it represents the actual ownership of physical gold.

This project highlights an emerging trend where tangible assets that have been tokenized on blockchain are being seen as the building blocks to revolutionize financial markets.

ADGM Recognition Strengthens Institutional Adoption

As announced by Tether on July 20, when XAU₮ received the designation of Accepted Spot Commodity with the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Shariah compliance is the next step. This will allow firms registered with ADGM to offer services related to the gold-anchored currency.

This move strengthens the firm’s presence in the UAE’s cryptocurrency scene, especially after the approval for USD₮ by ADGM to be an accepted fiat referenced token.

Taken together, all these developments improve XAU₮’s reputation with regulators and institutions, particularly in jurisdictions where adherence to standards is of utmost importance.

Tokenized Assets Gain Global Momentum

The most recent landmark is that of tokenized real-world assets becoming more prevalent, currently valued at above $31 billion globally. Banks are assessing the potential of blockchain-based versions of existing financial assets, including commodities, bonds, and others.

The XAU₮ can provide the backbone for a number of services, including halal saving schemes, wealth preservation services, collateralization services, and trade finance services. The certification can lead to adoption of this system in many GCC countries, South Asian countries, African countries, and many other countries where gold remains a credible financial asset.

What Happens Next for XAU₮?

According to Paolo Ardoino, the head of Tether, the certification increases ways that digital gold can be accessed while still conforming to the standards of Islamic financing and blockchain transparency.

As the landscape for digital assets changes towards practical use, digital tokens that represent assets of tangible value become more popular. As such, being both Shariah compliant and recognized under regulations, XAU₮ becomes a connection between owning physical gold and digital finance.

The future success depends on building partnerships with banks and other financial entities, fintech companies, and investors that seek access to physical gold in compliance with blockchain technology.
