Tether is expanding its digital asset strategy through stablecoin payments and Bitcoin mining infrastructure. The company led a pre-seed funding round in Bolivian fintech Peso to expand USD₮-powered financial services across Latin America. Separately, 15 mining industry participants committed to developing integrations for Tether’s open-source Mining Development Kit (MDK). These initiatives aim to increase stablecoin utility in everyday transactions and improve mining infrastructure interoperability while supporting the development of AI-driven applications across the digital asset industry.
Tether Secures 15 Commitments for Bitcoin Mining MDK
Tether has secured commitments from 15 industry participants, including mining operators, ASIC manufacturers, and mining pools, to build and maintain integrations with its Mining Development Kit.
The MDK framework is an open-source solution aimed at dealing with issues associated with mining infrastructure fragmentation. This is because big facilities are likely to have devices that have been manufactured by various manufacturers and pool connections and software management separately.

Each participant will develop an MDK worker, which is a translator that bridges the gap between its current hardware/software and a standard interface. This allows developers to create applications that will work with different systems without needing different integration solutions for each vendor.
Businesses have full control of the technology and reveal only those features that they choose through the common interface. The more participants who join the framework and develop their workers, the simpler mining becomes.

Tether’s QVAC Agent Supports AI Mining Automation
In addition to these objectives, MDK intends to facilitate the creation of AI solutions that can observe machines, detect issues in operations, and enhance the efficiency of mining activities. Yet, poor communication channels may hamper the capacity of AI agents to handle machine fleets.
“We are entering a period where software will increasingly operate physical infrastructure, not simply report on it,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. “That does not work at scale if every machine speaks a different language. Mining is one of the clearest examples of this problem today. MDK gives companies a way to keep control of their own technology while creating the common foundation developers and autonomous systems need to work across.”
According to the company, QVAC mining software can already be used directly on MDK, providing an illustration of the interaction between artificial intelligence software and mining hardware via a common platform.
This project is currently in its initial phase. The wider implementation of this system would require more integration and applications using this platform.
MDK 1.0 Release Targeted for Year-End 2026
The company aims to unveil MDK 0.11 in the upcoming Plan ₿ Forum event in Lugano on October 23–24, 2026. It seeks to release the first stable 1.0 version by the end of 2026.
The framework is already available for developers to experiment with integration and application development. On the other hand, Peso will concentrate on extending its payment network and merchant acceptance capabilities in Latin America.
Tether Invests in Peso to Expand USD₮ Payments
On October 21, 2026, Tether announced their financial support of Peso as they expand to Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina. Peso provides an international account in USD₮ that allows its users to save, spend, invest, and transfer money across borders from one app.
Bolivia allows customers to pay for their food purchases through Yango using USD₮. PESO also facilitates merchants’ POS transactions and virtual accounts that are linked to the country’s financial system using QR codes and automated clearing house (ACH) rails.

These funds will be allocated towards local ramps, payment solutions for merchants, and infrastructure for virtual accounts. This will make transactions from stablecoins into local currencies easier and make digital dollar transactions more convenient.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of the company, stated that the investment helps realize the company’s vision of the practicality of stablecoins in daily use cases.
Tether Expands Stablecoin and Mining Infrastructure
The involvement of Tether with the Peso and MDK projects solves separate problems that exist within the digital asset industry. In particular, Peso is focused on increasing the usage of USD₮ for everyday transactions, whereas MDK wants to make the mining process more compatible and introduce AI automation. The success of these projects will depend on adoption and usage.
