Key Takeaways

A Familiar Playbook, a New Wallet

Fifteen wallets were all it took as onchain sleuths flagged the GOLD token shortly after realtrumpcoins, an X account followed by President Trump, launched it on Solana. The launch looked routine at first as 15 newly created wallets spent just $18,657 to buy up 224.5 million GOLD tokens.

The stake combined with the developer’s own 600 million-token holding gave insiders control of 82.45% of supply before a single outside buyer got a fair shot.

Hours after the coordinated buy, realtrumpcoins quietly deleted the posts promoting GOLD, scrubbing its own trail.

Then Came the Sell-off

The same 15 wallets that had accumulated GOLD for pennies sold their entire 224.5 million-token position for 3,178 SOL, worth roughly $330,000 at the time. Against their original $18,657 outlay, that is a 17x return and a $312,000 profit, extracted in a single coordinated exit.

Retail traders who bought in during the brief run-up were not as lucky. At least one wallet that chased GOLD near its high and lost $62,100 in minutes as the token’s price collapsed once the insider wallets began selling.

The entire episode was quite familiar as it followed a standard rug-pull arc where there was a manufactured scarcity, followed by a coordinated pump and then finally an exit that left the last buyers holding a token worth a fraction of what they paid.

Token trackers list realtrumpcoins as an unverified project distinct from the official TRUMP token the Trump Organization launched in January 2025. Bitcoin.com News has not independently verified any connection between the realtrumpcoins account and Donald Trump or his family beyond the account being one Trump follows on X.

Solana’s Launchpads Keep Producing Repeat Offenders

GOLD’s mechanics are not unique to Trump-adjacent accounts given that late last year, a developer using Pump.fun livestreamed a fabricated terminal illness to pump a token called 120 Hours, telling viewers all the fees would go to his family after he passed, before draining the liquidity pool live on stream.

The token had briefly reached a market capitalization of about $534,000; the developer walked away with roughly $14,000 in fees while sympathy-driven buyers were left holding a token worth nearly nothing.

In GOLD’s case, the tactics differ as they employ a recognizable name instead of emotional manipulation, but the underlying exploit is identical.

Trump-Branded Tokens Keep Landing in Washington’s Crosshairs

GOLD is a minor episode next to the scrutiny already surrounding Trump-linked crypto. The official TRUMP token, launched days before Trump’s second inauguration, once carried a market capitalization near $15 billion before crashing roughly 97% from its peak.

That collapse prompted Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal to send a letter demanding the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigate whether the token amounts to an illegal scheme, given insiders’ outsized token allocation.
