President Donald Trump has signaled that the U.S. government could consider accumulating a substantial amount of Bitcoin as his administration continues its push to establish clearer rules for the cryptocurrency industry.

Speaking at the White House Wednesday, alongside senior regulators and executives from major crypto and financial companies, Trump was asked whether his administration planned to acquire sizable amounts of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. Rather than ruling out additional purchases, the president indicated that the possibility remains under consideration.

Well, it’s been talked about. I think I’d probably rely on Paul and the whole group for that. He’ll make a decision,” Trump said. “If you came in with recommendations, two of you, if you came in with some recommendations, I would certainly listen.”

Notably, the comments could revive speculation over whether the administration intends to expand the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve established earlier in Trump’s presidency. While the president did not announce a new purchase or provide a target amount, his willingness to consider recommendations leaves the door open to further government accumulation.

The discussion came as the administration placed renewed emphasis on the CLARITY Act, legislation intended to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets and define the responsibilities of federal regulators.

Meanwhile, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said Congress should send the legislation to Trump for his signature, arguing that clearer rules would give crypto businesses greater certainty when raising capital in the United States.

The most important priority is for Congress to send the Clarity Act to your desk for your signature,” Atkins said.

The White House also highlighted the importance of making the legislation durable enough to shape the industry’s development for years. Officials pointed to a September 15 vote as an important milestone, with expectations that the bill could attract support from both Republicans and Democrats.

Trump’s crypto advisers portrayed the legislation as part of a broader effort to make the United States a leading destination for digital-asset innovation. They argued that regulatory certainty could encourage investment, create jobs and prevent cryptocurrency businesses from moving offshore.

The meeting brought together executives from Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood and other major financial institutions, underscoring the administration’s effort to engage directly with the private sector.

Officials also cited progress on stablecoins, tokenized assets and crypto-related capital formation as evidence that the administration’s policy shift is already influencing the market.

For Bitcoin, however, Trump’s remarks may be particularly significant because they suggest that additional federal purchases remain possible even though no immediate acquisition was announced.

Trump also argued that cryptocurrency has benefited the U.S. dollar rather than undermining it. “It’s taken a lot of pressure off the dollar. It’s been very very good for the dollar,” he noted.

That said, the combination of potential Bitcoin accumulation and advancing crypto legislation could therefore become an important catalyst for the digital-asset market. Still, investors will likely focus on whether officials eventually provide concrete recommendations, purchase targets, or implementation details.
