The Blockchain Advisory Group held its first meeting on June 3 in Paris. The goal is simple. It wants to find real uses for blockchain that help people and governments. The focus stays on better financial access, digital identity systems, improved public services, and climate projects.
Instead of talking about token prices, the group looks at practical problems. These include messy payment systems, weak digital identity options, and the need for systems that work across borders.
Key Topics from the First Meeting
Financial inclusion and digital finance took center stage. Members discussed how blockchain can reach communities that banks often ignore. They also looked at ways to make digital identity safer and more widely accepted.
Other themes for future meetings include digital governance, public trust, legal identity, sustainability, and climate tracking. The group plans to meet twice a year to keep the conversation moving.
Building on Past Work
The UNDP already runs blockchain projects in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. These projects test how blockchain can add transparency and cut waste without replacing current systems.
Alongside the launch, the UNDP AltFinLab held events called Scaling Blockchain for Public Good. One event showed blockchain and decentralized AI projects that are moving toward real use in development programs.
