Uniswap founder Hayden Adams says Sam Bankman-Fried once paid seven figures for the Uniswap.com domain before Uniswap Labs later obtained control of it through a legal proceeding.
Fun fact, the og owners of https://t.co/bRvDs5brca wanted 7 figures, but we refused to pay that amount
So SBF bought it (for 7 figures) and pointed it to a fork – I guess to flex / mess with us
This malicious use of the domain was enough for our legal team to get it for free https://t.co/ZV0yJhdvZg

Adams made the claim in a September 21 post on X while discussing the history of the domain.
He said the original owners had asked Uniswap to pay a seven-figure sum for Uniswap.com, but the team declined.
According to Adams, Bankman-Fried later paid the amount and the domain was redirected toward a fork of the Uniswap protocol.
Uniswap.com Redirected Visitors to SushiSwap
Official records confirm that Uniswap.com was redirected to SushiSwap in 2021.
SushiSwap was created as a fork of Uniswap and competed in the same decentralized exchange market.
Uniswap Labs filed a complaint over the domain in May 2021.
The World Intellectual Property Organization later reviewed archived copies of the site and screenshots showing Uniswap.com resolving to a SushiSwap page.
The WIPO panel found that Uniswap Labs owned registered rights to the UNISWAP trademark.
It also concluded that redirecting users to SushiSwap did not qualify as legitimate use of the domain.
The panel found that the redirect created a risk that users could believe Uniswap Labs was connected to, sponsored or endorsed the destination.
WIPO determined that the domain had been registered and used in bad faith.
On September 3, 2021, the panel ordered Uniswap.com transferred to Universal Navigation Inc., which operates as Uniswap Labs.
That process did not require Uniswap Labs to buy the domain from the respondent.
WIPO Records Do Not Name SBF
One important part of Adams’ account is not independently confirmed by the official case record.
The WIPO decision identifies the respondent as Registration Private, Domains By Proxy, LLC and Future XXX of Hong Kong.
It does not name Bankman-Fried as the purchaser or owner of Uniswap.com.
It also does not disclose a seven-figure purchase price.
Adams did not publish transaction documents or identify the seller in his X post.
Bankman-Fried did, however, have a previous connection to SushiSwap.
He temporarily took control of the project during a governance crisis in September 2020 after its anonymous founder handed over control.
Bankman-Fried then helped oversee SushiSwap’s migration before control moved to a multisignature structure.
That relationship provides context for Adams’ claim, but it does not independently prove that Bankman-Fried bought Uniswap.com.
Uniswap.com now redirects to the official Uniswap application at app.uniswap.org.
Bankman-Fried is separately serving a 25-year prison sentence tied to the collapse of FTX, while the 2021 WIPO case made no findings about him personally.
