  • Uphold now offers access to 4,000+ U.S. stocks and ETFs for eligible American investors.
  • Crypto-funded stock purchases convert digital assets into U.S. dollars before trade execution.
  • Fractional shares from $5 expand investment access through Uphold’s integrated platform.

Uphold has expanded beyond cryptocurrency by launching stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF) trading for eligible U.S. customers. The new service offers access to more than 4,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs while allowing users to fund purchases with either cash or supported cryptocurrencies through a streamlined trading experience.

Uphold Expands Into U.S. Stock and ETF Trading

Crypto platform Uphold has introduced stock and ETF trading, giving eligible U.S. customers access to more than 4,000 listed securities. The launch expands the company’s multi-asset investment platform beyond digital assets.

Users can buy stocks with cash or supported cryptocurrencies through a single transaction within the Uphold application. The company said investors can also purchase fractional shares, allowing investments from as little as $5 where available.

According to Uphold, stock trades funded with cryptocurrencies are not settled directly using digital assets. Instead, the platform converts the selected cryptocurrency into U.S. dollars before transferring the proceeds to a brokerage account for execution.

The brokerage service is provided by Uphold Securities, a registered broker-dealer and member of FINRA and SIPC. Meanwhile, Uphold HQ manages the cryptocurrency conversion before securities transactions are completed.

Uphold also stated that cash-funded stock and ETF purchases carry no trading commission.

However, cryptocurrency-funded purchases remain subject to digital asset conversion fees, while regulatory charges may apply when securities are sold.

Nancy Beaton, President of Uphold U.S., said investors increasingly prefer managing both traditional and digital assets from one platform. She added that the new service removes the need to transfer funds between separate crypto wallets and brokerage accounts.

Crypto Platforms Continue Expanding Into Traditional Finance

The latest launch reflects a broader industry trend as cryptocurrency firms increasingly add traditional investment products. Several exchanges, including Binance, as reported earlier, combine crypto services with regulated securities offerings to attract investors seeking diversified portfolios.

Unlike tokenized stocks available in some international markets, Uphold’s service provides ownership through a conventional brokerage structure. Investors purchase actual securities rather than blockchain-based representations of listed shares.

The company plans to extend stock trading hours to 24 hours a day, five days a week. Longer sessions would allow customers to react to earnings announcements, economic reports, and international market developments outside regular U.S. trading hours.

Uphold currently supports customers across more than 140 countries through its digital asset platform.

However, the newly launched securities service is currently available only to eligible U.S. customers.

The expansion strengthens Uphold’s strategy of combining cryptocurrencies and traditional financial products within one application. As competition grows, crypto platforms continue building integrated investment ecosystems that simplify access to multiple asset classes while remaining within existing regulatory frameworks.
