The U.S. Justice Department seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency linked to Hamas as authorities moved to disrupt the group’s fundraising operations.
According to a September 1 announcement by the DOJ and FBI, authorities also took control of websites, domains and servers they say were used to collect and transfer funds for Hamas and its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. The action adds to U.S. efforts to cut off cryptocurrency channels authorities say the group used to raise money.
FBI Traces Crypto Donations
Investigators traced cryptocurrency through wallet addresses that were changed to make donation flows harder to follow. Court documents detail three seizure warrants covering transactions made in 2025.

The FBI also identified thousands of people who contacted Hamas online about cryptocurrency donations. The information could help investigators uncover additional fundraising activity.
The latest action follows an earlier seizure of about $201,400 in March 2025. The wallets involved had moved more than $1.5 million since late 2024, according to court documents.
Enforcement Expands
The DOJ also targeted about $2 million in digital currency linked to Buy Cash, a Gaza-based financial services business previously sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury.
Hamas said in 2023 that it would stop raising money through cryptocurrency. The latest seizures suggest that cryptocurrency fundraising linked to the group may have continued despite that announcement.
U.S. authorities are also targeting the online infrastructure they say supports the fundraising network, including websites, domains and servers allegedly connected to the operation.
