Bitcoin’s long-term trajectory continues to draw ambitious price forecasts, with veteran financial adviser Ric Edelman putting a striking number on the table. Edelman believes the flagship cryptocurrency could soar to $500,000 by 2030, comparing its current stage to Amazon in 1999, when the e-commerce giant was still years away from reaching its later scale.

Why Edelman Sees an “Amazon in 1999” Moment for Bitcoin

Speaking with Bitcoin Magazine TV on September 17, Edelman drew a parallel between Bitcoin’s current position and Amazon’s early days, noting that the company faced significant skepticism in 1999 as investors questioned whether it had a place in their portfolios.

Edelman’s comparison centers on the idea that Bitcoin is now at a similar stage, with adoption steadily gaining ground while still remaining far from mainstream.

“Back in 1999, people were arguing over whether to invest in Amazon,” Edelman posited.

The popular American financial adviser added that he expects Bitcoin to follow a similar path as adoption expands and the asset gains broader acceptance over the long term.

The analogy is centered on adoption, not on the two assets having identical investment profiles. Amazon is a revenue-generating company with operating cash flows, whereas Bitcoin is a decentralized digital asset.

The Road to $500K: Edelman’s Bitcoin Forecast

Edelman also outlined the thinking behind his $500,000 Bitcoin target. His model assumes that investors worldwide could eventually dedicate about 1% of their portfolio holdings to BTC. If that allocation becomes widespread, he argues, Bitcoin’s price could rise to roughly $500,000 per coin.

Notably, Edelman’s $500,000 figure is a projection based on his assumptions about future investment flows, rather than a current valuation or a guaranteed price target. He also suggested that his forecast is relatively conservative compared with some of the more aggressive Bitcoin predictions circulating in the market, describing his estimate as “actually kind of low compared to many others.”

Bitcoin was trading around $76,633 at the time of this publication, still roughly 39.2% below its $126,080 record high set in October 2025, per CoinGecko. Edelman’s $500,000 forecast would require a massive move from current levels. At $76,633, Bitcoin would need to surge approximately 552% to reach his target, putting the alpha crypto at roughly 6.5 times its price today.

Edelman’s latest comments are rooted in more than ten years of closely watching the crypto market. He has previously said his Bitcoin research began in 2013, followed by his first investment in the asset in early 2014. Since then, he has maintained that digital assets could eventually move further into the mainstream and become a more familiar component of diversified investment portfolios.
