Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s Practical Magic 2, the long-awaited sequel to the duo’s 1998 fantasy comedy drama, opens in theaters this Friday. Where can audiences stream the original film before taking in the sequel?

Directed by Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic premiered in North American theaters on Oct. 16, 1998. Based on the bestselling 1997 novel by Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic tells the tale of Sally (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman), descendants of a long line of witches who were raised by their eccentric aunts, Francis (Stockard Channing) and Denise (Dianne Wiest), in a small town in Massachusetts.

Practical Magic is currently available on streaming video on demand for subscribers of HBO Max. It makes sense that the film is available on the Warner Bros. Discovery platform, given that Warner Bros. was the studio behind 1998’s Practical Magic, as well as Practical Magic 2.

Where Else Can I Stream ‘Practical Magic’?

For viewers who don’t want to subscribe to HBO Max to stream Practical Magic, there are other options. The film is available to rent on demand on a variety of digital platforms including Prime Video and Apple TV for $4.99 per month.

Fandango at Home, meanwhile, is offering the option to viewers to rent or buy the film on digital for $5.

‘Practical Magic 2’ Introduces Several New Cast Members

Directed by Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple, Bird Box), Practical Magic 2 picks up more than two decades after the events of the 1998 film.

In the sequel, Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (Nicole Kidman) are forced to confront and hopefully break the dark curse to the Owens — which has now been passed on to Sally’s grown daughters — that could destroy the family for good.

Practical Magic 2 also features the return of Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, and introduces Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod to the magical world of the Owens sisters.

Rated PG-13, Practical Magic 2 plays in preview screenings on Thursday before opening in theaters nationwide on Friday.
