The judgment, signed by U.S. District Judge Brett H. Ludwig, resolves a civil forfeiture case that had been pending in the Eastern District of Wisconsin under case number 22-cv-0749-bhl. The defendant property in the case was the cryptocurrency itself, held in a Binance account whose number ends in 9745.
According to the judgment, the court entered a default ruling after finding that no timely verified claim had been filed by any party asserting an ownership interest in the funds. Because no claim was submitted within the required period, the government’s forfeiture motion went unopposed.
The order strips any other party of “right, title or interest” in the cryptocurrency and formally vests ownership in the United States. The judgment further directs the U.S. Marshals Service for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, or an authorized agent, to seize the defendant property and dispose of it in accordance with federal law.
