A popular crypto researcher has renewed the case for XRP by pointing to Mastercard’s work with Ripple, arguing that the payments giant’s tokenization and central-bank digital currency efforts could eventually expand XRP Ledger usage.

Crypto Sensei’s central claim is that the relationship is more substantial than many investors realize, though several of its forward-looking assertions remain speculative.

The YouTube show host highlights Mastercard’s CBDC Partner Program, which included Ripple among its initial participants alongside companies such as Consensys, Fireblocks, Fluency and others.

Mastercard said the program was intended to help central banks explore digital-currency projects, with emphasis on consumer privacy, stability and interoperability.

Ripple Appears In Mastercard’s Multi-Trillion Payment Plots

Crypto Sensei also cites a 2021 Mastercard executive discussion in which Ripple was named among partners helping the company prepare for digital-asset transaction flows.

The commentator presents that reference as evidence that Mastercard has been examining Ripple’s technology for years rather than treating the relationship as a recent development.

Remittances are a major part of the argument. The host points to Mastercard’s recognition of Ripple’s XRP-based remittance capabilities in Latin America and argues that blockchain settlement could reduce the cost and time involved in cross-border transfers, particularly between the United States and Brazil.

Mastercard’s scale gives the theory its appeal. The video cites an estimated 1.03 billion Mastercard credit cards and 1.55 billion debit cards, alongside a market capitalization of roughly $463 billion. It also references Mastercard’s estimate of $235 trillion in payment flows, framing even limited blockchain-based settlement as potentially significant for the wider digital-asset market.

Tokenization Ambitions Don’t Auto-Convert Into XRP Adoption

Much of the YouTube episode goes beyond confirmed partnerships. Crypto Sensei speculates that Mastercard could use the XRP Ledger for tokenized deposits, cross-border transactions or even a future Mastercard stablecoin. “There’s no evidence that that is happening,” the commentator acknowledges when discussing the stablecoin idea.

The video further connects Mastercard’s tokenization work in Hong Kong, Brazil, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom with Ripple’s separate relationships and engagements in those markets. That overlap may be relevant for investors tracking institutional blockchain pilots, but it does not establish that Mastercard will settle payments in XRP.

Crypto Sensei also repeats a reported remark attributed to Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach that SWIFT may not exist in five years. Whether or not legacy payment rails are disrupted at that pace, Mastercard’s public focus on tokenization and CBDCs underscores a broader shift toward programmable, always-on settlement infrastructure.

Ripple’s inclusion in Mastercard’s CBDC partner network is a tangible institutional connection, while large-scale XRP usage by Mastercard remains unconfirmed. The key developments to watch are production deployments, named settlement rails and disclosures on which networks support Mastercard’s tokenized-payment products.
