TL;DR

  • A solo Bitcoin miner successfully solved block 960,804 and earned a reward of 3.15689830 BTC worth nearly $200,000.
  • The miner used CKPool infrastructure to compete against the global Bitcoin network despite controlling limited computing power.
  • The event highlights how individual participants can still secure full block rewards as Bitcoin mining remains open to independent operators.

The Bitcoin miner received a total reward of 3.15689830 BTC, including the current 3.125 BTC block subsidy and approximately 0.032 BTC in transaction fees from 4,243 transactions. The block was discovered through CKPool, a service that allows independent miners to participate without managing a complete Bitcoin node.

Solo Bitcoin mining remains extremely competitive, with large companies controlling most of the network’s hashrate. However, this case shows that individual miners can still achieve significant payouts by participating in Bitcoin’s decentralized mining system and benefiting from probability, technology access, and persistence.

Bitcoin mining requires participants to compete by solving complex cryptographic calculations, with the winner receiving newly issued BTC and transaction fees. Since the 2024 halving, Bitcoin’s block subsidy has remained fixed at 3.125 BTC, while the next reduction is expected after block 1,050,000.

Solo Bitcoin Miner Wins Block Reward Against Network Odds

CKPool developer Dr -ck identified the winning miner and estimated that the participant’s hashrate reached a temporary peak of 100 petahashes per second, likely through rented mining capacity. Compared with Bitcoin’s total network hashrate of more than 900 exahashes per second, the miner controlled only a small percentage of the available computing power.

For comparison, a typical individual miner operating a 100 terahashes per second machine faces extremely low chances of discovering a block independently. The successful block discovery demonstrates that Bitcoin’s protocol continues allowing smaller participants to compete alongside large-scale mining operations.

Solo mining events have continued to occur despite the increasing industrialization of the sector. Previous independent miners have collected rewards between approximately $200,000 and more than $350,000, with final values changing depending on Bitcoin’s market price when the block is found.

Bitcoin Mining Accessibility Continues Through Independent Platforms

Services such as CKPool allow smaller miners to connect their hardware to shared infrastructure while maintaining the possibility of receiving a complete block reward. CKPool charges a 2% fee when a miner successfully discovers a Bitcoin block through its platform.

The latest discovery reinforces one of Bitcoin’s core characteristics: anyone with the necessary equipment and technical access can participate in securing the network. Although professional mining companies dominate global hashrate distribution, independent miners continue finding blocks through alternative approaches.
