What to know:
- ZEC surged above $800, gaining 24.07% as market capitalization reached approximately $13.43 billion.
- Zcash futures volume hit $4.55 billion, while open interest approached $1.35 billion.
- Grayscale filed for ZCSH ETF conversion, with potential acquisition of 200,000 ZEC worth $163 million.

Zcash surged above $800 on Saturday, reaching an eight-year high as renewed demand pushed ZEC through its January 2018 peak.
Currently, ZEC is trading around $798.11 while 24-hour trading volume is about $9.93 billion with market capitalization of nearly $13.43 billion. Daily gain is recorded to be 24.07%, market share of 0.51% according to data provided by market sources on Saturday.
That marks a major breakout as ZEC traded within 589-851 range in one day, which amounts to volatility of nearly 45%. Moreover, ZEC has managed to beat previous intraday high of $750 in November. The rally revived comparisons with Bitcoin because Zcash shares Bitcoin’s 21 million supply cap, proof-of-work mining and scheduled halvings.
Activity on market has played a crucial role in such price surge. ZEC futures trading volume has reached $4.55 billion in comparison with approximately $553 million of spot trading while open interest stood close to $1.35 billion. Large derivatives trading volume is capable of increasing gains by using leverage while on the other hand it increases risks of liquidations in case of reversal of trend.

Institutional ZEC Interest Emerges Through Grayscale
Grayscale is another factor behind the price increase as the company filed with an amendment dated August 18 proposing to change Zcash Trust into a spot exchange-traded fund on NYSE Arca under symbol ZCSH. Even though this filing advances the proposal, its acceptance still needs to be approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In addition, filing revealed non-binding discussions between DCG International Investments, a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, about the potential purchase of approximately 200,000 ZEC via the trust. At Saturday’s reported price, that position would be worth roughly $163 million. The potential transaction signals institutional interest, although its non-binding status means the purchase could change.
Zcash Market Value Reaches $13.87 Billion
Zcash’s longer-term case also depends on network development. Project Tachyon’s roadmap targets scaling shielded payments, improved wallet synchronization and greater quantum readiness. However, researchers note Zcash is not yet quantum-safe. In June, developers remediated a critical Orchard vulnerability, making security and supply verification important ongoing network considerations for users and investors today.
The rally matters because Zcash now ranks among the largest privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, with market value around $13.87 billion in the latest figures. The key takeaway is that ETF progress, derivatives activity and renewed attention are driving momentum, while regulatory approval, leverage and network security remain factors to monitor.
