Alec Bohm’s Philadelphia Phillies tenure has rarely followed a straight line. The former No. 3 overall pick has experienced breakout moments, difficult stretches and plenty of scrutiny in Philadelphia, but his latest run has given him a chance to end the season on a positive note.
As the Phillies string together an impressive stretch heading toward the playoffs, Bohm has enjoyed a surge at the plate.
A recent walk-off triple recently helped the team overcome three separate deficits and extend its winning streak to seven games, encapsulating just how impactful Bohm can be when he’s hitting well.
“Bohm’s heroics helped Philadelphia overcome a trio of deficits on its way to a season-high seventh straight victory,” MLB.com’s Paul Casella wrote last week. “The win not only helped the Phils maintain their hold on the second National League Wild Card spot but it also moved them to within four games of the NL East-leading (Atlanta) Braves.”
For Bohm, though, the final weeks of the season carry significance beyond the standings.
With free agency approaching, the infielder has now openly addressed the likelihood that his time with the Phillies is soon coming to an end.

Bohm has been one of the more polarizing athletes in Philadelphia since the Phillies selected him third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft.
He signed for nearly $6 million and has established himself as a regular major leaguer, but his offensive production has fluctuated. After making the All-Star team in 2024, Bohm has struggled to consistently replicate that level of performance.
He also remains associated with one of the most infamous moments of his Phillies career. After committing two errors against the New York Mets in 2022, Bohm was caught on camera saying, “I (bleeping) hate this place.” He apologized, and his relationship with Philadelphia improved considerably afterward, but his body language has betrayed some lingering frustration.
Now, with free agency set for next season, Bohm acknowledged that his time in a Phillies uniform could be over soon.
“If this is the last season I play here with these guys, I want to remember it as good and positive — not sitting here, face buried in an iPad trying to figure out how I can raise my batting average,” Bohm told The Athletic’s Charlotte Varnes.

Bohm expanded on why he is choosing to focus on enjoying the moment rather than obsessing over his production in this contract year.
“I just really wanted to not look back on my time here and remember, ‘Oh, I was kind of sour, not having a good time, because I wasn’t playing as good as I wanted to,’” Bohm added, per Varnes. “(I want to) remember how fun and special this group was, and all the good times I had up to this point — and the good times the rest of the year.”
Whatever Bohm’s mindset, the Phillies are hoping his positive production can continue as they chase the Braves in the NL East. It seems all but certain he is due for a change of scenery after this season, though if he propels the team to a World Series championship, that could change things.
