Archer Aviation Expands Its Plans

Archer continues to work toward certifying its Midnight aircraft while building out other parts of its business. The company is developing defense related projects through a separate division called Archer Defense.

Archer has also announced plans to acquire Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid, all tied to Boeing. These deals would add autonomous flight technology and military drone capability to Archer’s operations.

Spending on aircraft development, certification, and manufacturing has raised concerns among investors about future capital needs. Still, analyst sentiment remains largely positive.

Five of six analysts covering Archer rate the stock a buy, giving it a Strong Buy consensus. The average price target implies about 149 percent upside from current levels.

Joby Aviation Moves Toward Certification

Joby is in the final stage of FAA type certification for its aircraft. The company has logged thousands of test flights as part of that process.

Joby expanded its business this year by acquiring the passenger operations of Blade Air Mobility. The company is also preparing to launch flights in Dubai as part of its international plans.

Joby recently faced a legal setback when a federal jury ordered it to pay $116.9 million. The jury found that Joby had misappropriated trade secrets and broken a confidentiality agreement involving Aerosonic.

Among seven analysts covering Joby, two recommend buying the stock, three rate it a hold, and two recommend selling. That gives Joby a Hold rating overall, with a price target implying about 99 percent upside.

The $116.9 million jury verdict against Joby adds a new financial obligation as the company works through certification and prepares for international expansion.
