Tether Kazakhstan Partnership Explores Tenge-Backed Stablecoin

Through the Tether Kazakhstan partnership, the three organizations will research the different approaches adopted internationally to issue stablecoins and develop a proposal for issuing a stablecoin that would be backed by Kazakhstan’s national currency, the tenge.

Such a pilot program will enable Kazakhstan to evaluate how a local-currency stablecoin can be employed in its digital financial ecosystem. The project emerges at a time when various governments and financial institutions are still evaluating stablecoins for different purposes.

According to the CEO of Tether, Paolo Ardoino, there is an increasing trend for digital assets towards financial applications and infrastructure for sovereign use.

Kazakhstan takes an innovative approach by considering the tokenization of assets and the establishment of the strategic reserve, whereas Tether tries to help build digital finance infrastructure that values data privacy.

Tether Kazakhstan Partnership Expands Tokenization

Tether Kazakhstan partnership will also explore a tokenization scheme for real assets in the country.

According to Tether, the Hadron platform can facilitate the effort. Both parties will prioritize asset classes and create a tokenization scheme to implement a pilot program in Alatau City.

The project will also use global experience in terms of regulation and technologies as Kazakhstan explores the potential for incorporating blockchain assets into its financial system.

The concept of real-world asset tokenization allows conventional assets to be symbolized using blockchain technology. Consequently, Kazakhstan’s newest move will make it possible for blockchain to move away from cryptocurrencies to other industries like infrastructure and real estate.

Kazakhstan Strengthens Digital Finance Strategy

The Tether Kazakhstan partnership is a component of the wider effort by Kazakhstan to build its digital financial infrastructure.

Binur Zhalenov, Deputy Governor of the National Bank, mentioned that international technology collaborations could facilitate the development of the country’s financial sector. Financial stability, transparency, and investor protection were highlighted as key factors.

As per the deal, Tether, the National Bank, and Alatau City Government will conduct seminars and training sessions regarding stablecoins, digital assets, reserves management, and real-world asset tokenization.

These sessions are intended to boost knowledge of digital finance among government employees and central banks, as Kazakhstan is still evaluating the applications of blockchain technology in finance.

Tether Kazakhstan Partnership Aligns With Tokenization Strategy

The Tether Kazakhstan partnership is also part of a wider government strategy related to asset tokenization.

In particular, on September 15, 2026, Kazakhstan approved a joint action plan developed with the National Bank and involving 65 steps divided into 10 categories. According to this document, asset tokenization is the key priority concerning capital attraction for infrastructure, real estate, and raw materials projects.

With this policy move, the Tether Kazakhstan partnership would have a much bigger role than just the development of stablecoins. The partnership may enable Kazakhstan to explore the potential use of tokenized assets and digital currencies in its financial ecosystem.

The new policy move will also broaden Tether’s participation in digital finance, which is targeted at institutions and governments. For Kazakhstan, the Tether Kazakhstan partnership will present a chance to explore stablecoins and tokenization within a proven digital-asset organization.
