Ariana Grande Scores Her Eleventh Pop Airplay Chart No. 1

“Hate That I Made You Love Me” dances to No. 1 on the Pop Airplay chart this week after sitting at No. 3 last frame. Several months into its run, the lead single from Grande’s album Petal becomes her eleventh leader on the radio ranking.

Ariana Grande Makes Pop Airplay History

Billboard reports that as “Hate That I Made You Love Me” conquers the Pop Airplay tally, Grande has now collected at least one No. 1 from each of her seven most recent studio albums. She is the first artist to see that many full-lengths produce at least a single champion on the ranking.

Before this week, half a dozen Grande albums had produced Pop Airplay rulers, which put her on the same level as Rihanna. The latter superstar had managed a similar showing beginning in 2006.

Ariana Grande’s No. 1 Streak Spans Seven Albums

Grande started her winning streak on the Pop Airplay chart a little more than a decade ago with My Everything. That full-length produced the No. 1 “Problem” with Iggy Azalea. Two years later, “Side to Side,” her collaboration with Nicki Minaj featured on Dangerous Woman, also led the charge.

Grande’s next three albums, Sweetener, Thank U, Next and Positions, all produced two No. 1s. Sweetener ruled with “No Tears Left to Cry” and “God Is a Woman.” Thank U, Next sent both its title track and “7 Rings” to the summit, while Positions produced champions with its namesake cut and “34+35.”

Her two most recent albums, Eternal Sunshine and Pedal, have produced one winner apiece. “Yes, And?,” the lead single taken from Eternal Sunshine, missed out on the throne, while “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” did command the roster. Petal has now produced its first leader with “Hate That I Made You Love Me.”

Grande has also topped the tally alongside The Weeknd on a remix of his song “Die for You,” though that collaboration was featured on the deluxe edition of his album Starboy.

Rihanna’s Pop Airplay No. 1 Albums

Rihanna also enjoyed a lengthy run of albums that produced Pop Airplay No. 1s, with half a dozen in total. Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded sent both “Take a Bow” and “Disturbia” to the summit, while A Girl Like Me produced “SOS,” one of her earliest dance-floor fillers. Loud generated another pair of champions – her only other full-length to do so – as both “Only Girl (In the World)” and “S&M” took turns on top.

Rated R ruled with “Rude Boy,” and Talk That Talk and Unapologetic, which were released one year apart, each claim one Pop Airplay No. 1. The former album claimed the leader “We Found Love” alongside Calvin Harris, while the latter includes “Stay” with Mikky Ekko.

Rihanna has also reached No. 1 on the Pop Airplay chart as a featured act on songs attached to albums by other stars. That roundup includes a pair of leaders with Eminem, “Love the Way You Lie” and “The Monster,” featured on Recovery and The Marshall Mathers LP 2, respectively, as well as “Live Your Life” with T.I.

Ariana Grande Ties Rihanna With 11 No. 1s

With an eleventh No. 1 to her credit, Grande ties for the third-most leaders ever on the Pop Airplay chart. She is now on the same level as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Maroon 5 and Rihanna. Taylor Swift leads all acts with 15 No. 1s, while Bruno Mars sits in second place with a lucky 13 rulers.
