Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) is deeply bullish on Bitcoin, according to data shared by market analyst Wu Blockchain. In a fireside chat at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 event shared today on the X platform, CZ admitted his conviction that Bitcoin may become more important than gold and possibly surpass it during the next major bull run.

Gold is currently the world’s most valuable asset, ahead of stocks of top corporations around the globe. Throughout history, gold has maintained its status as the top-most preferred global asset. Currently, it has a market valuation of $15.899 trillion, much larger than Bitcoin’s market capitalization, which stands at $1.6 trillion. Maintaining its top position as the world’s most-invested asset means Gold is the preferred asset among global investors because of its stable, inflation-resistant value.

CZ Thinks Bitcoin Will Overtake Gold

However, CZ believes that Bitcoin could flip gold (in terms of importance) in the next bull run as more countries adopt the flagship cryptocurrency as a strategic reserve asset. The executive is convinced that if BTC progressively becomes a strategic reserve asset for nations, its major importance will eventually overtake gold’s. He said gold’s current dominance is driven by its established custody among institutions and robust reserve systems owned by countries, not the metal’s intrinsic value.

Based on CZ’s explanation, gold’s real liquidity is not in the asset itself, but in the maturity of its market valuation, high investor custody, and reserve systems that sovereign states have already established for the asset. He also pointed to underlying shifts in current and future global reserves, which continue to diversify, as shown by gold investors rotating funds into alternative assets like Bitcoin.

Gold’s market capitalization is currently 10x bigger than Bitcoin’s (as stated above). CZ believes that this gap could decrease as Bitcoin adoption among institutional investors and sovereign countries expands. The shift is being driven by countries progressively channeling their reserve assets towards BTC. He warned, however, that the move from gold to Bitcoin will take time, as nations already have strong investments in gold reserves.

What’s Next for BTC

CZ’s reflections come at a time when Bitcoin has recently experienced a robust rebound, recovering from a low of $59,352 to a high of $81,000 last month. The asset currently trades at $79,045 and has been up 1.61% and 22.2% over the past week and month, showing its consolidation.

The remarks show that the Binance founder is highly bullish on Bitcoin as he anticipates the asset will climb to $1 million sooner than most market predictions expect, catalyzed by broader adoption in institutional capital, pension investment schemes, and countries’ capital reserves. He encouraged governments worldwide to create clear crypto laws and consider allocating capital reserves to Bitcoin to speed up this transformation, citing examples from the US, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Japan.
