TLDR

  • Jeff Bezos has invested about $30 billion in Blue Origin since founding it in 2000.
  • The company just raised $10 billion in its first funding round with outside investors.
  • The round values Blue Origin at roughly $140 billion.
  • Blue Origin made $800 million in revenue in 2025 and expects $1.4 billion this year.
  • The company projects more than $30 billion in revenue by 2030.

Blue Origin has completed its first fundraising round that includes outside investors. The round brought in $10 billion and values the space company at about $140 billion.

Jeff Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000. He has now put roughly $30 billion of his own money into the company.

That total includes a new $2 billion commitment tied to this latest round. Bezos has sold shares of Amazon over the years to help fund the space venture.

His net worth was reported at $275 billion in late September. That figure comes from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Revenue Targets Point to Fast Growth

Blue Origin generated $800 million in revenue in 2025. The company expects that number to grow to $1.4 billion this year.

Documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal show the company projects more than $30 billion in revenue by 2030. Some of that growth is expected to come from a satellite communications business.

That satellite business has not launched any devices into orbit yet. Another piece of future revenue is tied to a planned fleet of artificial intelligence satellites.

The largest portion of near term revenue is expected to come from rocket launch demand. Blue Origin currently employs about 15,000 people.

The company went through a large layoff last year. It also stopped its suborbital tourism flights during that period.

Competition With SpaceX Remains Central

Blue Origin competes with several companies in the space industry. Its biggest rival is Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which is currently seen as the industry leader.

Blue Origin is counting on its New Glenn rocket to close that gap. New Glenn is built with a reusable booster designed to lower launch costs over time.

The company has flown three New Glenn missions so far. It has not launched the rocket since a vehicle exploded on a Florida launchpad in May.

Blue Origin is now rebuilding that launch complex. Chief Executive Dave Limp has led the company for almost three years.

Limp has focused on speeding up missions and technical development during that time. The company says it wants to deliver more consistently for customers, including NASA.

Bezos spoke about the space industry in an interview last year. He said there was room for multiple winners in the field.

He said SpaceX would succeed and that Blue Origin would succeed too. He also said a company that has not yet been founded could become successful in the industry.

The new funding round could grow beyond its original $10 billion target. It marks the first time Blue Origin has accepted investment from outside parties since it was founded twenty six years ago.
