Sometimes Bruno Mars is referred to as a pop star, while in other cases, it’s fair to call him one of the most successful R&B musicians of all time. Those two statements are true, as many of the singer’s most popular tunes can be classified under either – and usually both – of those genre labels.
That’s been part of Mars’s generation-defining success: his work typically appeals to a wide swath of music lovers, and he produces the kind of tunes that radio stations love to play nonstop for years. Mars continues to promote his latest album The Romantic, which features multiple hit songs, and more recently he scored a win alongside Latin powerhouse Karol G – but it is on one of Billboard’s R&B tallies where he makes history once more.
Bruno Mars Ties a Historic Billboard Record
“I Just Might,” the lead single from The Romantic, holds at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs charts this week. The former covers the most popular tracks in the U.S. that can be labeled rap, R&B or hip-hop, while the latter narrows its focus specifically to R&B.
It is on the Hot R&B Songs chart where Mars forms a historic tie. “I Just Might” has now ruled the ranking for its entire 34-week run. As it earns another stay in the spotlight, the cut matches Leon Thomas’s “Mutt” as the second-longest-running No. 1 in the tally’s history. “Mutt” managed its 34-week reign only last year.
Bruno Mars May Break That Tie Next Week
“I Just Might” will likely conquer the Hot R&B Songs chart again next week, at which point Mars will pull ahead of Thomas and claim second place alone. It will be quite a while before he has a shot at matching the all-time record, though.
The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” remains the longest-running leader in the history of the R&B-only ranking. The global blockbuster topped the chart for 48 frames beginning in 2020, and it continues to command a lead of more than three months over Mars’s impressive total.
“I Just Might” Is Already a Historic Winner on Another R&B Chart
“I Just Might” is already counted as the second-longest-running No. 1 ever on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, though it does not establish that position this frame. The single has spent 27 weeks at the summit of the broader genre ranking, and that sum will almost surely continue to grow.
That total keeps Mars ahead of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which ruled for 22 periods between 2024 and 2025. Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” is a month ahead of “I Just Might,” with a record 31 weeks in first place.
“I Just Might” Lives Inside the Top 10 on Multiple Lists
“I Just Might” appears on 11 Billboard charts this week, and it occupies a spot inside the top 10 on half of them. In addition to leading both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs tallies, the single holds at its all-time high of No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart. “I Just Might” also returns to No. 2 on the R&B Streaming Songs ranking, where it has dominated in the past. The track remains a top 10 smash on the Radio Songs and Adult Pop Airplay charts as well, as it sits at No. 7 on the two radio tallies.
Bruno Mars and Karol G Reach New Radio Peaks Together
Mars enjoys another victory in America this week with “Still,” his collaboration with Karol G. The single rises to new highs on both the Rhythmic Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay charts, ascending to Nos. 26 and 27, respectively. At the same time, “Still” keeps at its all-time high of No. 34 on the Pop Airplay tally.
