On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Pluang reported that Thai police had arrested a 30-year-old Chinese national in Pattaya in connection with the theft of approximately 4.707 million USDT from an OKX user’s account.
According to the report, the suspect and his accomplices allegedly used AI face-swapping technology combined with SIM card fraud to impersonate the victim and gain unauthorized access to the account.
Authorities said the man had entered Thailand on a tourist visa in July 2024 and remained in the country until his detention this September, after police in Guangdong, China, issued a wanted notice for his arrest.
The case adds to a growing list of incidents in which sophisticated technology has been used to facilitate cryptocurrency theft, and underscores ongoing cross-border cooperation between Thai and Chinese law enforcement agencies in pursuing suspects linked to digital asset crimes.
