TL;DR

  • Circle revealed the initial partners of Arc, its new blockchain, including BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, NYSE, and Intercontinental Exchange.
  • The network will launch with between 10 and 12 operators and could expand to 20 or 40 over time, according to CEO Jeremy Allaire.
  • BlackRock will integrate its tokenized fund BUIDL into Arc using USDC, and the DTCC will add tokenized traditional assets starting in the second half of 2027.

Circle introduced the founding partners of Arc, its new blockchain network focused on digital payments and financial applications. Its public launch is scheduled for September 16.

The list includes several heavyweight names: BlackRock, Intercontinental Exchange —parent company of the New York Stock Exchange—, Visa, Mastercard, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), Galaxy, Global Payments, MoneyGram, SBI Group, Standard Chartered, and Sumitomo Corporation.

These partners will act as network operators, verifying transactions, securing the infrastructure, and adding new blocks to the chain. Their involvement represents an acknowledgment from traditional finance of the long-term value of tokenized assets and blockchain-based financial infrastructure.

Circle and the Institutional Weight of Arc

Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle, explained in an exclusive interview with CNBC that Arc was designed as a distributed network governed initially by between 10 and 12 firms, with a projection to grow to 20 or 40 operators over time. Each participant will be part of a staking infrastructure in which ARC token holders will be able to vote on key components of the network.

The company, known primarily as the issuer of USDC, envisions Arc as the operating system of the agentic economy: a platform on which companies build and operate digital payment applications using stablecoins and other blockchain services. It currently operates in a limited-access phase with 100 selected partners.

Among the most significant integrations, BlackRock will bring its tokenized money market fund BUIDL to Arc, leveraging native USDC support to allow institutional investors to buy, redeem, and use fund assets directly on the blockchain. Meanwhile, the DTCC will work with Circle to incorporate tokenized versions of traditional assets starting in the second half of 2027.

Arc Must Prove Its Real-World Use

Circle holds 25% of the initial supply of 10 billion Arc tokens, allowing it to participate in the validator infrastructure and earn staking revenue. 60% of the tokens will go to those who build, use, and contribute to the network, while the remaining 15% will go to a long-term reserve.

The next twelve months will determine whether Arc achieves real adoption or ends up as another blockchain ecosystem measured by agreements rather than actual usage.
