Cronos said on August 31 that its network was fully back online after validators restored chain state to a point before the Tectonic exploit. Block production resumed at 23:49:01 UTC on August 30 from block 90,896,189, according to Cronos.
Cronos Restores Pre-Exploit State and Resumes Blocks
The rollback took the chain to before the incident affecting Tectonic, a lending protocol on Cronos, and preceded the restart. Cronos’s resumption announcement did not provide further technical detail on the rollback’s execution or quantify the assets restored through it.
Tectonic Exploit Triggered the Network Halt
Cronos had announced on August 30 that it identified an exploit in Tectonic and halted the network while it investigated. Two minutes later, Tectonic told users not to interact with the protocol as its team examined an incident.
The network halt came before the subsequent state restoration. Neither announcement included a detailed post-incident account of the exploit or a timetable for further findings.
Alleged TONIC Price Manipulation Put About $75M at Risk
About $6 million reportedly reached Ethereum before the halt, according to The Block, which reported Weilin Li’s findings.
Li, an on-chain researcher, estimated that roughly $75 million in assets were affected after an attacker allegedly pushed TONIC’s price up by about 100 times, posted the token as collateral and borrowed other assets.
Cronos confirmed that it halted the network while investigating an exploit in Tectonic. The reported scale and mechanism remain external estimates rather than figures Cronos has publicly confirmed.
