- DOGE futures open interest declined 5.51% to $614.9 million, signaling reduced derivatives exposure.
- Dogecoin remains below several major moving averages despite its latest rebound.
- Binance accounts for nearly 43% of outstanding DOGE futures positions.
- The $0.087 region presents an important technical test for buyers.
Dogecoin recovered toward $0.085 on October 13, but declining futures exposure and a series of lower price highs suggest traders remain cautious following the cryptocurrency market’s latest selloff.
DOGE traded near $0.08496, with a market capitalization of $14.61 billion and approximately $2 billion in daily trading volume. Although the token rebounded from an intraday low of $0.07992, its price remained below several important moving averages.
Derivatives data showed open interest falling to $614.9 million, while Binance, Bybit, OKX and Hyperliquid accounted for nearly all outstanding positions.
The immediate question is whether buyers can reclaim resistance near $0.087 or whether the recovery will fade within Dogecoin’s descending price channel.
DOGE Recovers, but the Technical Structure Remains Weak
Dogecoin’s October 13 daily candle showed a rebound from an intraday low of $0.07992 to approximately $0.08495, according to the Coinbase DOGE/USD chart from TradingView.

The token had opened near $0.08216 and reached $0.08517 during the session, placing the daily candle approximately 3.48% higher at the time of the snapshot.
That positive daily move contrasts with the negative rolling 24-hour performance. The difference reflects the measurement periods rather than conflicting market data.
More importantly, the rebound has not reversed the broader downward structure visible on the chart.
DOGE remains inside a descending price channel formed after its late-September advance toward $0.10. Successive lower highs indicate that sellers have continued to emerge during recovery attempts.
The latest rebound occurred near the channel’s lower boundary, making the move technically significant but not yet evidence of a breakout.
Dogecoin was also trading below its 20-day simple moving average near $0.09166, its 50-day average around $0.08860 and its 200-day average near $0.08753.
The 100-day average, around $0.08090, remained below the market price and provided a nearby reference for potential support.
This configuration leaves DOGE facing several layers of overhead resistance before the broader technical picture can improve.
The Price Levels That Matter Next
The chart’s Fibonacci retracement levels provide a framework for assessing whether buyers can sustain the recovery.
Immediate support sits near $0.08246, followed by the $0.08090 moving-average region. A sustained move below those levels would expose the lower support area around $0.07605.
On the upside, $0.08696 is the first important recovery level. The nearby 200-day moving average around $0.08753 adds to resistance in that region.
A stronger advance would need to challenge $0.09146, close to the 20-day moving average, before the recent sequence of lower highs begins to change.

The immediate test is whether DOGE can move through the $0.087 region and hold above it. A brief intraday move would be less convincing than sustained trading above resistance accompanied by improving market participation.
Falling Open Interest Points to Reduced Derivatives Exposure
Dogecoin’s derivatives market provides a second indication that speculative activity has cooled.
The latest information from Coinalyze showed $614.9 million in open interest, entirely attributed to perpetual contracts in the displayed dataset. The 5.51% daily decline represents a reduction in the value of outstanding positions.

Open interest measures contracts that remain active, rather than the volume traded during a particular period. It can decline when traders close positions, when positions are forcibly liquidated or when the notional value of existing contracts falls alongside the underlying asset’s price.
Consequently, lower open interest is consistent with deleveraging but does not establish how much of the decline resulted from forced liquidations.
The distribution across exchanges also reveals where DOGE derivatives exposure is concentrated.
Binance accounted for approximately $263.3 million, representing nearly 43% of the reported total. Bybit followed with $120.2 million, while OKX and Hyperliquid held $111.5 million and $105.5 million, respectively.
Together, those four venues represented approximately 97.7% of the open interest shown in the snapshot.
That concentration matters because changes in leveraged positioning on a relatively small number of trading platforms can influence short-term market volatility.
For now, the combination of lower prices over the week and declining open interest points to reduced derivatives exposure rather than a clear resurgence of speculative demand.
The Wider Crypto Selloff Adds Pressure
Dogecoin’s decline comes amid broader weakness in cryptocurrency markets. On October 12, Bitcoin briefly fell below $82,000, while Solana, XRP and other altcoins suffered sharper losses.
According to data from Coinglass, the selloff triggered approximately $812 million in leveraged liquidations over 24 hours, with long positions accounting for roughly 84.3% of the total.

Forced closures can intensify downward price movements as exchanges automatically unwind positions when traders can no longer meet margin requirements.
Dogecoin remains particularly sensitive to these conditions because its valuation depends heavily on speculative demand, trading liquidity and market sentiment rather than contractual cash flows.
With no identified Dogecoin-specific network disruption or major protocol announcement driving the decline, broader market deleveraging appears to be the principal source of pressure.
What Would Confirm a Stronger Dogecoin Recovery?
The next meaningful signal will come from the relationship between price and derivatives positioning.
A sustained move above nearby resistance, accompanied by stabilizing or rising open interest, would suggest renewed participation in the recovery.
That would not automatically establish bullish momentum. The direction of new positioning would still need to be assessed through funding rates and other derivatives indicators.
Conversely, a failure to hold the $0.082 support area could place renewed pressure on DOGE, particularly if broader cryptocurrency markets experience another round of leveraged selling.
The current evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Dogecoin has recovered from its intraday low, but the rebound remains inside a declining technical structure while derivatives exposure continues to contract.
Whether the recovery develops into a more durable reversal will depend on buyers reclaiming resistance and broader market conditions becoming less hostile to speculative assets.
