Dolly Parton is one of the bestselling musical artists of all time, but her heyday came long before the introduction of outlets like Spotify and Apple Music. Like countless other artists who broke through in the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and even ’90s, Parton’s music was never nearly as successful on streaming platforms as it was when looking at traditional sales (she did sell more than 100 million albums throughout her career).
Following her passing last month, the singer-songwriter’s catalog has jumped in popularity on streaming sites. A massive uptick in clicks on her most famous tunes, as well as a handful of albums — and especially one compilation — helps Parton posthumously reach new heights on some of Billboard’s streaming tallies and even land on one for the very first time only days after her death.
Dolly Parton Debuts on the Streaming Albums Chart
Ultimate Dolly Parton debuts at No. 5 on the Top Streaming Albums chart this week. The ranking, which was only introduced by Billboard a few years ago, focuses on the albums and EPs generating the most streaming activity in the United States. Parton reaches the roster for the first time and immediately scores a top 10 hit on her inaugural visit.
Dolly Parton Scores the Week’s Highest Streaming Debut
Ultimate Dolly Parton is the highest-ranking debut on this week’s Top Streaming Albums chart, and it is one of only a handful of projects to arrive on the tally this frame. The compilation beats new releases including Stella Lefty’s Long Way Home (No. 11) and PartyNextDoor’s P3 (No. 25), as well as several returning favorites that also break back onto the streaming-focused tally.
Ultimate Dolly Parton Reaches New Peaks on Three More Charts
At the same time that it debuts on the Top Streaming Albums chart, Ultimate Dolly Parton returns to three additional Billboard rankings and reaches new highs on all of them. The compilation reenters the Top Country Albums list, the Billboard 200 and the Top Album Sales chart at Nos. 3, 5 and 12, respectively.
The compilation’s showing on the Billboard 200 showing is especially notable, as Ultimate Dolly Parton breaks into the top 10 for the first time. The collection becomes Parton’s fourth career placement inside the uppermost tier of the most-consumed releases ranking in America.
Dolly Parton Scores Her First Streaming Songs Top 10
“Jolene” debuts at No. 7 on the Streaming Songs chart this week. The roster is not limited to any one genre, as it ranks the most-played songs in the United States on major platforms. The arrival immediately sends Parton to a new career high on the roster. “Jolene” becomes her first top 10 hit on the Streaming Songs list as it opens.
Dolly Parton Nearly Lands Two Streaming Top 10s
Parton comes close to claiming multiple top 10 hits on the Streaming Songs chart at the same time. “9 to 5” launches at No. 12, missing the highest tier by only two spaces.
Throughout the years, Parton has racked up half a dozen hits on the streaming-focused tally. Her first two, “Tyrant” with Beyoncé and “Have the Heart” with Post Malone, both arrived only months apart in 2024. Those tracks spent just one week apiece on the ranking before disappearing.
This frame, four songs by Parton appear on the Streaming Songs chart for the first time. In addition to “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” “Islands in the Stream” with Kenny Rogers and her original version of “I Will Always Love You” debut at Nos. 25 and 32, respectively.
