Ethereum price is exhibiting weakness in the short term even though it has a positive outlook for the future. This decline points to increasing risks on the downside before its next possible rise. Technical levels and momentum indicators will define Ethereum’s next move.

At the time of writing, ETH is trading at $ 2,459.2 with a 24-hour trading volume of $ 16.78 billion and a market cap of $ 299.78 billion. Ethereum price decreased by 2.55% over the last 24 hours.

Ethereum Price Outlook Turns Bullish

On the 5th of September 2026, crypto analyst Crypto Patel presented his optimistic outlook on the long-term outlook for the Ethereum price. Patel believed that the potential of the cryptocurrency is not limited to merely the $15,000 mark.

Patel did not consider it necessary to exit the markets whenever there was a significant correction. Patel even referred to a previous zone where Ethereum price could have been accumulated, at $1,500 to $1,600.

Such reasoning is based on the opinion that, generally speaking, short-term fluctuations in the price of Ethereum should be viewed as a separate topic compared to the adoption story for the project. Nonetheless, current technical analysis shows that ETH might encounter further troubles before seeing any recovery.

Ethereum MACD Signals Weakening Momentum

At present, the technical construction of Ethereum price reflects a rather contradictory picture.

Firstly, the top Bollinger Band is situated at $2,727.40, and the middle one at $2,388.07. The bottom band is at approximately $2,048.73. Since Ethereum is trading above the middle band, it still resides in the upper part of its trading range, notwithstanding its recent fall.

Nevertheless, the MACD technical indicator signals caution. MACD is at 117.79, which is below the signal line at 131.96, while the histogram is now in negative territory at -14.17.

This suggests that the uptrend has lost some strength. Should the MACD divergence gap widen, ETH may come under more downward pressure or return to the mid Bollinger Band level.

This is not to say that the overall bullish trend is invalid, but rather that Ethereum may have to re-acquire momentum before making a further move upward.

What Happens Next for Ethereum price?

Ethereum’s near-term path will probably rely to a large degree on whether it can stay above the middle Bollinger Band at around $2,388.

Recovery to $2,727 would improve the near-term outlook, while movement below $2,388 would raise the chances of reaching the lower Bollinger Band at around $2,049.

In the meantime, there are currently two distinct stories playing out in the market: the loss of near-term momentum and anticipation of greater future gains.

The key point here is that a reversal of ETH in the recent period does not necessarily mean that the asset will have a bearish course going forward. Investors will most likely keep their eyes on the $2,388 level of support, the $2,727 level of resistance, and the MACD line.
