Lil Yachty only needed to last five minutes with Baron Corbin in the opening match on WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event. If he did, he would earn Trick Williams an instant shot at the United States Championship. In an entertaining iteration of Beat the Clock, Yachty accomplished his mission and Trick made good on the opportunity the award-winning rapper afforded him. Williams regained his U.S. title. That’s kayfabe, but how well did Yachty perform in this role? Let’s talk Sunday Night’s Main Event.

Quavo played Yachty to the ring. Corbin hit multiple End of Days and had the match won more than once, then spent the closing minute setting up a table instead of finishing. With seconds left he put Yachty on the top turnbuckle for a superplex and Yachty countered as the clock expired. Corbin chokeslammed him through the table anyway. Bleacher Report graded the segment a C-plus. Williams then beat Corbin in 11:14 for his second reign.
Obviously, Yachty has been undergoing a crash course in wrestling training at the WWE Performance Center. You can tell Yachty has been taking things seriously. Did he look as good as Logan Paul? No, that would be unrealistic. Paul has devoted more time and is simply a better natural athlete.
That said, Yachty pulled off every spot with reasonable efficiency — including a hurricanrana. If there was one slip-up, Yachty busted Corbin open at the beginning of the match when he clocked him in the edge with the microphone. Corbin had a clear laceration at the top of his left ear. That didn’t appear to be planned.
All things considered, Yachty did his job and the entire segment gave Sunday Night’s Main Event a strong start.
