- The platform integrates AI-enabled trading workflows with regulated market infrastructure and digital connectivity.

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has announced plans to launch LSE 24, a new near-continuous 24-hour, five-day-a-week trading venue designed to support the next generation of digital, algorithmic, and AI-powered trading.
The platform will initially list exchange-traded products (ETPs), with client testing scheduled by the end of 2026 and a commercial launch planned for the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
Operating separately from the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market, LSE 24 aims to give investors greater flexibility to trade outside traditional UK market hours.
The initiative reflects a broader shift across global financial markets as exchanges adapt to rising demand for extended trading and increasingly automated investment strategies.

London Stock Exchange Unveils LSE 24 for 24/5 Trading
According to LSEG, the London Stock Exchange 24 will enable near-continuous trading from Monday through Friday, allowing investors to respond more quickly to international market developments, access liquidity across multiple time zones, and manage portfolio risk beyond regular trading sessions.
The exchange will be operating between 5:00 PM and 7:50 AM in London time, with a break of 30 minutes between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM for the processing of trades for the day. According to the exchange, the new platform will have both a central limit order book and request-for-quote functionality.
ETPs were selected as the first asset class because London is already one of the world’s best places for ETPs, with equities being the next asset class due in a subsequent development stage.
AI and Digital Infrastructure Drive the Initiative
One of the unique features of LSE 24 is the utilization of trading that is supported by artificial intelligence and agents. Automated trading will be provided through the provision of connectors that will allow clients to trade against market data and execution flows while maintaining all the characteristics of a regulated exchange.
Following regulatory approvals, the exchange platform would work in conjunction with the Digital Securities Depository being developed by LSEG, with the aim of making issuance, settlement, and custody more modern while also building a foundation for future developments.
According to the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, Julia Hoggett, the announcement marked a defining point in the development of the financial market by providing more opportunities for trading and establishing London as one of the top financial centers in the world.
Global Exchanges Push Toward Longer Trading Hours
This comes at a time when trading hours have become a priority for exchanges. While Nasdaq is looking at implementing 23-hour trading on weekdays, Cboe has plans for launching a 23-hour, 5-day market for US equities. Crypto derivatives trading is now available all day long, owing to CME Group’s initiative.
What Happens Next?
The rollout of client tests for London Stock Exchange 24 is planned by the London Stock Exchange for before the end of 2026. Assuming that the regulators will approve, then the ETPs will be available in the first part of 2027, while the equity market will follow at some point later on.
The move represents one more step towards building an integrated, AI-driven, near-real-time capital market world.
